Who you are

  • We are looking for a candidate with demonstrated Risk Management expertise who will play a key role in building out new exciting programs across Amazon’s different organizations
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience in a risk function
  • Experience with risk-based analysis of products, vendors, and significant operational changes
  • Ability to manage and analyze data
  • Demonstrated track record of taking ownership and driving results
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
  • Ability to travel internationally – approximately once per quarter

What the job involves

  • The Risk Manager will drive risk assessments, escalation, and mitigation strategies across a diverse group of partners and risk disciplines, playing a vital role in ensuring that Amazon complies with local and global legal and compliance requirements and maintaining Amazon as being the place for a trusted shopping experience
  • You will join a team that partners across the organization to shape the future of Amazon’s evolving risk and compliance programs and where we value ownership, insight, intellectual flexibility, and sound business judgment
  • Second-line program level ownership which may include product risk, business continuity and resiliency, and third-party risk
  • Identify and develop appropriate data sources and elements which contribute to risk-based assessments
  • Own, maintain, and annually update policies, procedures, and other governance documents, as necessary
  • Develop detailed, data driven narratives to inform leadership/Board members of risk levels, mitigations, and impacts
  • Perform operational deep dives on processes and systems. Understand business processes, regulations, and controls and work with partners to identify root cause of issues
  • Identify, track, and report key risk indicators
  • Coach non-risk professionals on key elements on Risk management best practice
  • Manage several projects simultaneously with a sense of urgency
  • Own internal data integrity
  • Use your program management skills to effectively oversee and deliver projects
  • Partner with Assurance, Strategic Planning, Tech, Compliance or other key stakeholders to drive automation and improve risk and compliance culture
  • Value ownership, the ability to dive deep on issues to produce data driven analysis, and the ability to invent mechanisms and simplify data into key business information
  • Learn and understand a broad range of Amazon's risks and controls and how to analyze them to drive informed decisions
  • Break problems into manageable pieces, ruthlessly prioritizing, and delivering results in a global environment and on regional initiatives
  • Own the design, development, and maintenance of ongoing metrics, reports, analyses, dashboards, etc. to drive key business decisions
  • Dive deep into the control environment and understand the effectiveness of design and operations
  • Engage with multiple stakeholders to gather information and put it together in a cohesive manner
  • Draft reports and track metrics
  • Facilitate development of mechanisms and policies such as risk registers, risk appetite statements, key risk indicators, and other insights for partners and stakeholders

The company is present in numerous verticals, including cloud computing with Amazon Web Services, AI with its range of Alexa devices and a global marketplace more commonly referred to as 'the everything store'. More recently, Amazon has been focused on leading the "third wave in digital advertising". On top of this, the company's e-commerce division is facing profitability problems despite its 2023 post-IPO debt funding of 8 billion. It will need to find new ways to stay above their competitors.
