Who you are

  • 3+ years of experience with social media marketing, buzz marketing, community management and brand awareness online
  • A positive and adaptive personality, with a willingness to jump into account management head first. Thrives in a fast-paced and creative environment
  • A strong self-starter who is inspired to build a brand’s social presence from the ground up
  • Taking inspiration from #booktok, #bookstagram and author communities to inspire a unique content plan. Ability to keep your thumb on trends and upcoming opportunities and jump on them swiftly
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in social media platforms (TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Threads, Reddit, Discord, etc.) and management tools (e.g., Sprout, Hootsuite, Later)
  • Strong understanding of social media KPIs and analytics and how to leverage them
  • Graphic design skills (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) are a plus
  • Wanted but not preferred: Social media presence
  • Video editing skills (CapCut, TikTok, Reels, Adobe Premiere Pro, etc.)
  • Comfortable with being on camera and editing content
  • Creative and innovative thinker with strong organizational and multitasking skills

What the job involves

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive social media strategy aligned with business goals across platforms
  • Identify target audiences and create strategies to effectively engage them per platform
  • Create, curate, and manage all published content (images, video, written, and audio) across social media platforms (TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook and beyond)
  • Work closely with the team to brainstorm out-of-the-box, groundbreaking ideas for social and guerilla marketing endeavors
  • Engage with followers, respond to inquiries, and foster conversations to build a community around the brand. Develop strong relationships across audiences spanning multi-platforms
  • Address any issues or crises that arise on social media, maintaining the brand’s reputation
  • Track and analyze social media performance metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of strategies and campaigns. Iterate and adapt with the social team
  • Provide regular reports with insights and recommendations for improvement
  • Utilize tools like Sprout Social, Meta Business Suite, and other social media analytics tools to grow and adapt social strategy over time
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest social media trends, tools, and best practices per platform. Adapt accordingly
  • Conduct competitor analysis to identify opportunities for improvement and differentiation
  • Work closely with other departments, such as Content, Product, and Paid Marketing to ensure cohesive messaging and branding

Our take

The current publishing industry makes it very difficult for breakout authors to achieve success. Furthermore, publications are often based off subjective opinions of those in the industry, and potential readers have no input in the matter, despite them being the force that will drive a book's success.

Inkitt takes a different approach to publishing in order to give writers a fairer chance of success. The company allows writers to submit their stories onto the website where readers have free access to read anything posted. Using an algorithm, Inkitt then determines which stories have the most reader engagement, and based on this information, decides which to take to official print and publication.

7 rounds of funding to the sum of more than $100 million have allowed Inkitt to invest more in its algorithm and technology and open offices in San Francisco. It's also looking to expand into more mediums such as video content and audiobooks, with a long-term aim of building a media empire akin to Disney. Though there's a long way to go for that lofty aim to come to fruition, Inkitt has already attracted 33 million users and published dozens of bestsellers.
