Who you are

  • 3-5+ years of hands-on experience managing an engineering team and 9+ years of relevant software development industry experience in a fast paced tech environment
  • Past hands-on experience in Frontend Web Development
  • Hands-on experience with designing, leading, and architecting large, high-scale and distributed web applications
  • You have excellent communication skills and the ability to work well within a team and with teams across the engineering organization
  • Experience hire, retain and grow senior engineers and leaders with a track record of building productive, world-class engineering teams
  • You are passionate about technical quality, efficiency and operational excellence
  • Past experience working with modern web technologies like React, Typescript
  • Past experience in Marketing technology or CMS services is a plus

What the job involves

  • The Marketing Technology (MarTech) team is responsible for providing a state-of-the-art platform to enable effective marketing and product engagement with our customers
  • Our platform reaches millions of Airbnb guests and hosts daily through various channels, including onsite pages, emails, push notifications, and external ad platforms like SEM on Google
  • As the engineering manager, you’ll lead a team of talented software developers to build a no-code or low-code platform to author and publish content on onsite (airbnb.com) and offsite (emails, push notification)
  • This will include day-to-day operations, technical deep dives, and strategic planning
  • You will also work closely with XFN partners like design, product and marketing stakeholders
  • Manage a full stack team of frontend web and backend engineers
  • Lead the vision, technical direction of content platform for variety of marketing channels incl landing pages, email, push notification etc
  • Build a robust team by attracting top talent, mentoring individuals and managing conflict
  • Collaborate with XFN partners in product, creative and marketing to gain alignment by developing and communicating a clear and impactful vision and priorities for the team
  • Collaborate with engineering and product teams to plan and deliver impactful roadmap

Our take

When Airbnb was originally founded, the product helped customers book air mattresses on people's apartment floors. Since then, Airbnb has had over a billion customers hosted through its platform. With more than 4 million registered hosts worldwide, it has grown into a major player in the hospitality sector.

Airbnb has been successful in disrupting the traditional holiday lettings sector. Before it existed accommodation was limited to hotels and bed and breakfasts, but Airbnb has mainstreamed the idea of renting out spare rooms or even entire homes. It has created a new sector of hosts purchasing properties to rent out on the platform and provides a level of flexibility and a range of offerings not previously possible for travelers.

Perhaps a victim of its own success, by 2022 supply of Airbnb-listed properties began to outstrip demand in some markets, as hosts overestimated the appetite for domestic travel. However, the company is still posting strong financials and has unveiled new tools to support its hosts in a tougher rental market. With a healthy bottom line and a huge user base, Airbnb is very likely to overcome the current market turbulence and continue its growth.
