Role

Who you are

  • Extensive experience with microservices such as Kubernetes and container technologies
  • Deep understanding in core infrastructure technologies, including load balancing, auto-scaling, replication, networking, authentication protocols and encryption
  • Extensive experience with building services on AWS/GCP platforms and On-Premise Virtual/Physical infrastructure
  • Extensive experience in serverless infrastructure
  • Extensive experience in infrastructure automation and configuration management technologies
  • Extensive experience in development version control, testing, continuous integration, build, deployment and monitoring
  • Experience working in a fast paced environment and has the ability to prioritize tasks and work autonomously
  • BS/BA degree in computer science, engineering or equivalent years of experience
  • 7+ years experience as a System Engineer in developing enterprise applications and automations

Desirable

  • Extensive programing experience in Bash, Python, or Golang
  • Extensive experience in Google AppEngine, Cloudrun, and Cloud Function
  • Extensive experience in Ansible, Terraform, and Packer
  • Significant knowledge of SQL and common relational database (managed and self hosted) systems such as PostgreSQL and MySQL
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with high attention to detail
  • Strong team player and seeks out opportunities for improvement

What the job involves

  • Lead the collaboration with leadership, engineers, and customers to architect and implement innovative solutions for On-Premise and IaaS providers (AWS/GCP)
  • Serve as a technical expert and mentor for System Engineers and System Administrators, guiding the design, development, and scoping of solutions for Identity Access Management tools
  • Spearhead vulnerability remediation efforts, system maintenance, and regular patching, ensuring the stability and security of the infrastructure
  • Drive automation initiatives by leveraging configuration management, images, and templates across Windows and Linux environments, continuously improving efficiency and reliability
  • Lead efforts to improve monitoring, logging, and signaling capabilities, enabling proactive problem detection and resolution
  • Architect and develop highly scalable, available, and reliable DevOps tools, including CI/CD, build and artifact delivery, source control, code review, and validation, setting best practices for the team
  • Foster strong partnerships with other IT teams to ensure a seamless and high-quality setup for all team members, tools, and pipelines
  • Design and implement solutions using microservices or monolithic deployments, based on the specific requirements and constraints of each project
  • Strategically leverage both commercial and open source tools/software to drive business impact while finding innovative ways to optimize costs
  • Create well-documented services and tools that can be easily operationalized and maintained by the team
  • Continuously evaluate and recommend new technologies, working with leadership to prioritize deployment in alignment with business requirements and long-term goals
  • Effectively communicate project timelines, service dependencies, resource constraints, and progress to key stakeholders, ensuring transparency and alignment across the organization
  • Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation

Our take

Snap is the social media giant that owns Snapchat, a social media mobile app released in 2011. Created to serve as a more emotive communication form than texting, the app has gained mass popularity, reaching upwards of 400 million daily users worldwide.

After rejecting a billion dollar acquisition from Meta (then Facebook) in 2013, Snap has found itself in competition with the social media giant, particularly with Instagram. Despite this, the company has marked a place for itself in the ever competitive social media space through developing features like a Discover tab, augmented reality lenses, in-app games, ads and monetisation options, as well as launching its paid service, Snapchat+.

Snap has so far not earned an annual profit since going public in 2017, but as Snapchat's user base has continually increased it has nearly closed the gap. Like other tech companies it suffered in late 2022 due to a surprise drop in advertising revenue, but has been rebuilding to its former trajectory since then. Given Snapchat's lasting popularity amongst young people, further success appears likely.
