What the job involves

  • Handshake is hiring a Sales Development Representative on the Employer SDR team
  • In this role, you will represent Handshake by helping our potential customers successfully navigate their journey with our all-in-one early talent recruiting platform connecting them to 12M+ students and alumni across 90% of top educational institutions in the US (and growing)
  • You will engage effectively in written form and conduct high-level conversations with early talent experts and senior business executives in prospect accounts to fuel our company's growth
  • You will work with our Marketing Team to improve our campaigns and messaging and partner closely with our Sales Team to create and execute a territory plan
  • With a mix of solid process and creativity, you will help drive new business revenue through both inbound and outbound opportunity generation, including:
  • Prospecting and generating leads with employers
  • Collaborating closely with Account Executives to develop strategies for target employers, prospects, and messaging/talk-tracks
  • Establish exciting new relationships and opportunities, and meet with prospective Employers
  • Follow up on the high volume of leads effectively and efficiently
  • Qualifying new opportunities and handling complex objections
  • Use research and data to prioritize and customize outreach
  • Use Salesforce for lead and account management and forecasting
  • Establish rapport with all levels of customers, including senior executives
  • Creating significant outbound activity via targeted cold-calling and emailing
  • Continuously improving your approach by using data-driven solutions to track your results
  • Meeting - and exceeding! - your monthly quota to help the team hit our Employer growth objectives
  • This will be a hybrid role, so you must be willing to work from our San Francisco office
  • You will have an opportunity to learn and grow in this role. We support our SDRs and seek to promote SDRs internally based on demonstrating success in the role, alignment with our values, and a passion for helping students
  • You will contribute significantly to Handshake’s overall business objectives and have the opportunity to build valuable, transferable skills to help grow your career on multiple paths

Our take

The three founders of Handshake established their company in an attempt to eliminate inequality and make the student hiring landscape fairer. The Handshake platform acts as a LinkedIn for college students, pairing students from every walk of life with more than 650K employers, including the entire Fortune 500, which includes Google and Nike.

The graduate recruitment platform is open to any student with a valid @.edu email address, with more than 12 million active users from thousands of colleges and universities. With a student-first philosophy, the company generates revenue from both universities and employers rather than students.

Valued at $3.5B, Handshake has gained traction in a competitive market, although it has strong competition from recruiting giants LinkedIn and Indeed. It stands out, however, by helping students build new relationships and skills, rather than simply making connections to people they already know.
