On a mission to spend their days building something that helps people as they explore this world — showing them the way and capturing the stories they create as they go.

Role

Who you are

  • 3-5 years of experience in accounting and/or finance, preferably in a scale-up or startup environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting or equivalent non-degree training; a professional certification is a plus
  • A passion for tech and experience with setting up simple and automated accounting processes
  • Great eye for detail and a proactive mindset
  • Strong understanding of Dutch accounting and tax rules and regulations
  • Fluent in English

What the job involves

  • We’re looking for a tech-savvy financial professional at Polarsteps, in fact, you’ll be the first finance manager in our organisation!
  • You’ll be part of our People & Operations team, working closely together with our team leads and executive team
  • Many of our financial processes are currently outsourced, and we’re looking for someone who’s able to own our financial operations and connect the financial processes with our business needs
  • As you’ll be our first colleague in finance, you’ll have a broad range of responsibilities, from managing our day-to-day financial administration, to advising our executive team on strategic financial planning
  • Own our day-to-day financial administration and operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and tax compliance
  • Develop and maintain financial policies and procedures, and ensure that the company is compliant with all relevant financial regulations
  • Advise our executive team on strategic decisions
  • Coordinate our financial administration with our external accountant
  • Ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual statements
  • Lead budgeting and forecasting efforts, work closely with team leads to develop financial plans and track performance against targets, and work with the executive team on financial modelling for future investment
  • Conduct financial analysis to assess performance, identify trends, and provide insights to support decision-making
  • Manage cash flow effectively to ensure liquidity and optimise working capital
  • Centralise procurement and negotiation process for all purchasing

Our take

Polarsteps was founded by avid travellers who set out to automate well documented travel experiences for its first users. Now, it aims to be the go-to for travel planning, tracking and blogging. It allows its users to enjoy the travel experience while taking care of the documentation.

Travel innovation is not new, however, Polarsteps sets itself apart by optimising their product to work independent of mobile reception when needed, catering for long and remote travel experiences.

It is this promised convenience that secured their impressive customer growth. They have used this to build larger teams and a more robust product offering to set them up as a leading travel app.
