  • As the Principal Product Manager Technical for Campaign Management team you will design and build features that help advertisers maximize their marketing impact on a global scale
  • You will be responsible for the user experience that over a million people use to manage billions of dollars of ad spend daily
  • You will create simple and coherent user experiences build on top of multiple unique full stack advertising products
  • You will lead a program that impacts thousands of engineers and regularly delights new customers and ultimately improves the shopping experience for your family and friends
  • Campaign Manager is the largest and most used application on Amazon Ads website that advertisers use to optimize their marketing investment in amazon
  • They are mobile friendly, "API First", low latency, and emphasize both control and simplicity
  • It displays a massive amounts of data, which raises interesting big data problems
  • The customers who use these tools are highly diverse, ranging from small sellers who have never advertised before to the biggest brands in the world; the Principal Product Manager-Tech on Campaign Management must create a strong vision and roadmap to deliver features that delight all these customers
  • You will also help identify key workflows, measure them, and create experiences that help advertisers do their job more efficiently
  • You will also serve as the key business owner of the UX for the Sponsored Products, Sponsored Brands, Sponsored Display, and Sponsored Television advertising businesses
  • As part of the senior leadership team on Ads Campaign Management team your ideas and insight will help chart the course for the future of Amazon Ads

  • In this role, you will own the vision, roadmap, business reporting, and product planning for the Campaign Manager business, supported by Senior SDMs, TPM, Sr SDEs, and SDM partners
  • You'll organize resources, prioritize investment, and craft the long term strategic plan
  • You'll partner with the User Experience group to drive both research and design projects that make Campaign Manager is easier to use
  • In your "Technical" capacity, you'll help diagnose bottlenecks in how peers integrate with your features, helping them move faster and delight more customers
  • You'll also wear a strategic hat, as you think through how advertisers use Campaign Manager and propose new experiences that improve their workflows on how they manage and optimized their ads
  • Better yet, you'll be empowered to test-and-learn what experiences work best for users, and that insight may last you a lifetime
  • As the PPM-T on Campaign Manager you might start one of your days by glancing at your dashboards, to understand what customers are using and identify areas for a deeper dive later
  • You would note this data for use in a later "Weekly Business Review" meeting, where you'll walk senior leaders through your KPIs and explain how your strategic engineering investments are driving results
  • You might next meet with your team, helping go through Sprint Planning and celebrating key accomplishments
  • By identifying patterns of long-term investment and short-term win, you'll guide your teams to higher impact
  • You might then join a recurring partner forum, where you meet with key internal development leaders and review how they are integrating with your tools
  • By leading the meeting and encouraging others to share their thoughts, you'll identify patterns that your team can address
  • Writing documents is a big part of an Amazonian's job, and as the PPM-T you might spend part of your day working on your 3 Year Plan, asking yourself, 'what do I know about my customers this year that I didn't know last year,' among other key questions
  • It will be exciting to present this document to senior leaders across Ads and sell your broader vision for the business
  • Mentorship may also be a key part of your day
  • You might coach someone that your team identified as a great investment, but also you'll find your own emerging stars to grow

Amazon is the world's largest online retailer, and is well-known for its disruption of well-established industries. The company is present in numerous verticals, including cloud computing with Amazon Web Services, AI with its range of Alexa devices and a global marketplace more commonly referred to as 'the everything store'. Acquisitions include Ring, Twitch, Whole Foods Market, and IMDb.

More recently, Amazon has been focused on leading the "third wave in digital advertising". Many businesses are now shifting ad dollars to retailers, which before would have been spent with online media platforms. Amazon's seen great success in the space, with its revenue from advertising now higher than its Amazon Prime membership scheme, audiobooks and digital music combined. This growth is particularly impressive considering its digital ad rivals (like Snap, Alphabet, and Meta) have suffered declines due to wider macroeconomic factors and Apple's iOS privacy changes.

Despite its dominant market position, Amazon will continue to be challenged over the next decade, including sustaining AWS's cloud dominance in the face of Google and Microsoft. On top of this, the company's e-commerce division is facing profitability problems despite its 2023 post-IPO debt funding of 8 billion. It will need to find new ways to stay above their competitors.
