Who you are
- Prior experience as a data scientist or related function, including past experience in a managerial role
- Strong technical expertise in Product Analytics and statistical methodologies (A/B Testing)
- Proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, and other disciplines at both leadership and operational levels
- Passion for developing and coaching team members
- Commitment to team members’ well-being
- Experience in creating and delivering long-term strategies, projects, and hiring plans
- Expertise in SQL and Python
- Excellent communication skills, including listening, synthesis, advocacy, and evangelism
What the job involves
- Handshake is seeking a Data Science Manager to lead our Product Analytics function.
- You will guide a team of Data Scientists to provide insights that drive data-informed decisions in the Product Development process.
- This role involves close collaboration with leads in Product Management, Design, Engineering, and Business Operations to develop and execute our analytics roadmap and strategy for our three-sided marketplace, serving students, employers, and universities
- Lead, mentor, and empower a team of data scientists
- Oversee the team’s efforts in reporting, analytics, and experimentation for Product at Handshake
- Collaborate with Data, Product, and Engineering leaders to define a long-term vision for the Product Analytics team and translate it into actionable quarterly roadmaps
- Contribute directly to analytics work when needed, acting as a player-coach and thought partner to team members
- Partner with Product and Engineering Leadership to establish best practices and processes for Product Development with the goal of enabling product engineering teams to self serve for basic analytics tasks
- Shape the mission, technical direction, and culture of the Data Science and Analytics team
- Work with Relevance, Analytics Engineering, and Data Engineering teams on high-impact data projects
