Who you are
- Minimum of 1-2 year previous experience working in a high volume onboarding or customer service environment where you were cross-selling, up-selling, or maintaining a quota / KPIs
- Desire to pursue a career in onboarding long-term

What the job involves
- You’ll help small businesses choose and onboard with Gusto, and develop deep customer-centric onboarding skills while helping us reach and serve more customers
- You’ll work with a dynamic team of Onboarding professionals, product experts, Sales reps, and leadership to help you excel in your career
- Your role will be to help small business customers complete their onboarding
- Interacting with customers who sign up on our website via email, chat, and live phone interactions, you’ll help match our people platform offering to their specific business needs, exercising advisory skills
- You’ll help them navigate an important onboarding process, demonstrating sophisticated customer success skills
- Our team of over a hundred sales & onboarding professionals includes folks who practice across all channels and with different types of customers, but we all share deep passion and commitment to Identifying solutions: our company exists to solve problems for small businesses, and our onboarding team is a vital front door for small businesses who need and love our solutions
- We have communal goals, a team spirit, and company leadership caring about onboarding correctly
- Answer live chats, and engage in email communication at a high volume, with customers at different points in the sales process: discovery, decision, and onboarding
- Support customers through the process of onboarding which is about 70% of your daily conversations
- Identify and execute on additional upsell/cross-sell opportunities
- Develop customer empathy and product expertise
- Advise on onboarding solutions for small businesses leveraging internal resources
Our take
For many small businesses, vital administrative tasks such as payroll, taxes, and benefits are manual tasks that take time and energy which many SMB owners don’t have. The three co-founders of Gusto – all coming from small business backgrounds – collaborated on a Fintech company that would handle employee payments, benefits administration, and compliance support specifically for small businesses.
The company may have started slowly, as the founders focused on nailing each individual aspect of Gusto’s operations, but has now skyrocketed to unicorn status with more than 200,000 customers and a multi-billion dollar valuation. In 2021, Gusto began acquiring other companies to strengthen its offering and its position in a competitive market, including two other fintech startups, Ardius and Symmetry.
Through its continued acquisitions and fundraising efforts, the company has carved out a strong position for itself in the space. Although Gusto has found itself impacted by the macroeconomic situation, through the significant effect it has had on its clientele, the company still appears positive for the future after raising funds in 2023 that will see it reach key profitability benchmarks. It continues to consolidate its platform, for example by integrating with OpenComp to grant its users access to the company's Compensation Intelligence Platform.
