Role
Who you are
- Bachelor or above degree in Computer Engineering or a related field
- Minimum of 8 years experience in software engineering, with at least 2 years in a manager or tech lead role
- Ability to work on a globally-distributed team with a high degree of ownership
- Experience leading the delivery of multiple highly impactful products end to end, on time with a high quality bar
- Experience working with technical and non-technical stakeholders, successfully aligning and setting expectations on scope and delivery
- Ability to drive yourself and your teams to bring quality and consistency to their code and architecture, without compromising velocity
- Ability to grow in a fast-paced and dynamic environment that will challenge you to always bring your best
- Experience working on FinTech area, and familiar with major payment rails
- Experience working on AWS cloud based applications
- Experience working with a team located across multiple time zones
- Hands on at least one program language, Java or Python, and familiar with SQL, NO-SQL
What the job involves
- As an Engineering Manager, you will develop a deep understanding of both our customers needs and our technical systems to create and deliver a viable technical vision, proactively influence cross-functional partners and teams to align on deliverables that meet our customer needs while improving the technical quality of our platform systems, that includes payments and banking infrastructure
- You will lead a team of highly motivated engineers to help them achieve their personal and professional goals, mentor teammates in agile software development theory and practices and collaborate with partners to plan, prioritize, and deliver scalable and reliable products
- You’ll lead a team of talented, backend software developers to enable and optimize a best in class backend platform that scales across all of Flex’s current and future product offerings
- You will advance DevOps best practices to ensure a timely and reliable incident response process, while also tending to our resilient test/build/deploy pipeline
Our take
Many people struggle to pay their rent every month, with a variety of bills hitting their bank accounts simultaneously. Whilst many of these people earn enough money to cover their bills, the inflexible nature of monthly bills can make the all-in-one payment a harder obstacle.
Flex provides a mobile application for the flexible payment of rent, allowing users to pay their landlords through flexible payment plans, reschedule payments when necessary, and protect their funds through Overdraft Protection. The company achieves this by partnering with estate agents and paying their resident's bills upfront, taking on the challenges that landlords would normally have due to late payments.
Flex has experienced extremely rapid growth since its founding which has caused some issues, as it struggled to keep up with the surge in new customers. Having made improvements to its product and scaled its customer service team, it is set to continue providing a service that has come to be highly valued by both tenants and landlords.
