Who you are

  • Background in any of the following: Cloud Architecture, Systems Design, Software Development, Infrastructure Architecture, Data Engineering or DevOps
  • Have a demonstrated ability to think strategically about business, product, and technical solutions
  • Experience directing technical and/or organisational change of significant complexity
  • Verbal and written communication skills, with business-fluent English, to facilitate discussions in a customer organisation, as well as the technical background that enables you to easily interact with and give guidance to customers working in operational roles
  • Already hold, or be willing to undergo, government security vetting and clearance checks

  • Knowledge of distributed systems design and implementation or equivalent

  • AWS Sales, Marketing, and Global Services (SMGS) is responsible for driving revenue, adoption, and growth from the largest and fastest growing small- and mid-market accounts to enterprise-level customers including public sector
  • Amazon Web Services (AWS) is looking for a Principal Solutions Architect to join our thriving technical community and growing business in UK as part of the UK Public Sector team
  • The role will be aligned to one or more of our largest strategic customers within UK Public Sector
  • You will join a friendly and supportive team, working together to bring the latest in disruptive cloud computing technologies and innovations to our Public Sector customers
  • Our Public Sector teams help customers build a deeper understanding of hyper-scale cloud technology and application architectures, and they have the consultative skills required to drive deliver successful outcomes
  • As an AWS Principal Solutions Architect, you will have ownership of senior technical relationships with customers
  • Driving innovation through thought leadership and practice initiatives ultimately improving the lives of UK Citizens
  • Internally, you will be an advocate acting on behalf of the customer to help drive continual improvements to the AWS capabilities, sharing their needs and wants to inform the roadmap of AWS features and services
  • You will also help shape the future of the Solutions Architecture organisation by helping to hire, coach and mentor others
  • Principal Solutions Architects work on complex customer solutions and opportunities
  • They have an instrumental role in developing both the strategy and the team itself
  • They combine an informed view of the market with their understanding of emerging technology trends to speed-up innovation across their customer segment
  • Externally, they are recognized as progressive and innovative thinkers and influence the strategy of our customers
  • Internally, they earn a reputation of role models and deliver bar-raising guidance to the broader Solutions Architecture team
  • In this role, your creativity will link technology to tangible solutions, with the opportunity to define or invent cloud-native reference architectures with the AWS Solutions Architect community
  • You will take a central role in the creation and sharing of recommended practices, technical content and new reference architectures (e.g. white papers, code samples, blog posts) and evangelise and educate about AWS technology and industry trends (e.g. through workshops, user groups, meetups, public speaking, online videos or conferences)
  • If you can educate AWS customers about the art of the possible, while investigating the impossible, come build the future with us
  • Every day as a Solutions Architect is different. One day you could be deep diving into technical/business challenges to explore the art of the possible, the next you could be writing content and thought provoking ideas that helps our customers accelerate, the next coaching others on a technology you have expertise in

The company is present in numerous verticals, including cloud computing with Amazon Web Services, AI with its range of Alexa devices and a global marketplace more commonly referred to as 'the everything store'. Acquisitions include Ring, Twitch, Whole Foods Market, and IMDb.

More recently, Amazon has been focused on leading the "third wave in digital advertising". Many businesses are now shifting ad dollars to retailers, which before would have been spent with online media platforms. Amazon's seen great success in the space, with its revenue from advertising now higher than its Amazon Prime membership scheme, audiobooks and digital music combined. Despite its dominant market position, Amazon will continue to be challenged over the next decade, including sustaining AWS's cloud dominance in the face of Google and Microsoft. On top of this, the company's e-commerce division is facing profitability problems despite its 2023 post-IPO debt funding of 8 billion. It will need to find new ways to stay above their competitors.
