What the job involves

  • We are seeking a highly motivated Staff Engineer to contribute to Developer Productivity, with a focus on Test Platform Engineering
  • Our team’s flagship platforms provide lightweight test frameworks for every layer, synthetic identities, test data seeding, endpoint mocking, and overall testing infrastructure
  • These tools enable Affirm Engineering Teams to perform automated, deterministic testing with consistency across locations. Additionally, we support our partner teams in conducting exploratory testing, allowing us to collaboratively evolve our ways of working
  • Our goal is to create a workplace where teams, composed of partners from engineering, product, and design backgrounds, can focus on creativity and problem-solving, empowered by simplified, repeatable, and automated testing processes
  • In this role, you will actively collaborate on the roadmap, design technical solutions, and drive cross-team initiatives
  • You will work closely with the Engineering Director and the team to enhance quality standards and processes while representing the team in broader organizational efforts
  • Partner with stakeholders to align on roadmaps, strategy, and vision for the Test Platform Engineering team
  • Lead technical decisions, initiatives, and roadmaps within the Developer Productivity team and beyond
  • Collaborate with other technical leads, management, and stakeholders across the organization to design and implement solutions that extend beyond the team’s scope and require cross-functional collaboration
  • Lead and mentor engineers, helping them to grow and succeed. Provide guidance to engineers across the organization to improve their code quality and testing skills
  • Work closely with teammates from engineering, product, and design backgrounds to craft best-in-class systems and processes around test frameworks and infrastructure, with the ultimate goal of enabling them to build the best financial products
  • On-Call Rotation - There would be an on-call rotation for this role as a requirement

Our take

Affirm offers point-of-sale loans to consumers, working with merchants like Shopify, KAYAK, and Walmart. Buy now, pay later transactions have grown in popularity in recent years, and this business is tapping into the market with a totally different approach to credit - by delivering the Affirm card, the first US debit card with the option to pay-over-time.

Boating over 15 million customers and 245,000+ merchants, the company offers flexible payback options, ranging from 3 to 36 months. The interest rates run between 0% and 30%, so, while they are not necessarily the cheapest option, Affirm prides itself on having no fees for late payments, no hidden charges, and total transparency about what people will pay before they take out a loan.

Affirm collects payments from the customers and pays the merchants directly, shouldering the risk itself. The company has boosted its market share, expanding its availability beyond the US to include most of Canada, and continues to launch new features and create new partnerships towards bettering its offering.
