Company mission

To empower learners and teachers to achieve their full potential by connecting assessments, a digital curriculum, and instruction in one platform.

Role

Who you are

  • 6+ years of relevant experience, with 3+ years of management
  • Experience working cross-functionally with product management, design, and other engineering teams
  • The intelligence, empathy, integrity, and the technical chops required to quickly earn the trust of a technically astute team
  • Comfort with ambiguity; you enjoy figuring out what needs to be done—and then doing it

What the job involves

  • The Content Instructional Engineering team works with content authors and partners to ingest and optimize content within the Kiddom platform
  • The team of ingestion engineers and instructional designers (IDs) work together to automate ingestion of new curricula
  • Using a combination of ingestion tools and AI, engineers pull content from a variety of formats into a standardized Kiddom database, coordinating closely with instructional designers to get the best technical ingestion
  • Once in the platform, the IDs are able to further tweak and optimize the content for the most interactive and engaging teacher and student experience
  • We're looking for a thoughtful and strategic engineering leader to help us to further automate and refine our engineering processes across ingestion and optimization tooling
  • As we continue to scale our needs for quality curricula, we need to also scale and refine our team capabilities through automation, making sure we have a flexible, repeatable, and maintainable ingestion engine
  • As a manager on the engineering team, you’ll work closely with our VP of Engineering to execute on product and engineering projects, build out and support your engineering team, and help define Kiddom Engineering as we scale in these coming years
  • Manage a team of full-stack engineers and instructional designers
  • Collaborate with the team's product managers, designers, and other engineers to plan and execute product and engineering roadmaps
  • Coach and mentor engineers for individual impact, balance, growth, and leadership
  • Thoughtfully craft the team's responsibilities, goals, and processes to deliver
  • Collaborate with cross-functional leaders across the organization
  • Build a user-friendly experience, balancing pace with quality

Otta's take

Sam Franklin

CEO of Otta

Digital education has become an increasing reality in recent years. Whilst services such as Zoom have provided platforms for remote teaching, the minimal functionality of such services has outlined the lack of digital engagement tools that classrooms require.

Kiddom develops a collaborative learning platform for K-12 schooling that aims to provide integrated solutions to not only remote teaching but also in-person school and homework assignments. The platform allows teachers to assign tasks and to collaborate with students on them, whilst the software gathers data to provide insights on student engagement and performance.

The startup currently provides its services to individual teachers for free, but solutions for inter-institutional curriculums come at an annual subscription fee. Kiddom’s approach aims to provide solutions and fill the gap between remote and in-school teaching, at the same time as integrating student analytics to optimize and personalize the way students are educated.
