Who you are

  • We are looking for an experienced program manager with excellent communication and technical skills who can empathize with diverse groups and tailor communications to the capacity and needs of different groups
  • This job requires good listening skills, a talent for delivering compelling presentations, and the ability to communicate sophisticated technical content
  • We seek candidates with proven experience and a history of effectively delivering sophisticated software systems
  • Domain knowledge of or passion for data science, ML engineering, and data engineering preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in hands-on technical program management with agile development methodologies such as Scrum and Kanban
  • Excellent time management, resource management, and planning skills
  • Familiarity with fundamental business, economics, mathematics, statistics, and computer science concepts
  • Strong communication ability on technical content
  • Knowledge of and experience in software engineering and operations
  • Preferred experience with ML systems in production

What the job involves

  • This is a complex role with broad responsibilities that require machine learning knowledge and experience in multi-stakeholder environments
  • As a member of our ML Program Management team, you will develop work plans to meet EG, Division, and Stakeholder strategic objectives
  • You will communicate complex topics to product leads and executives in clear, straightforward language
  • You will support and collaborate with multiple teams of machine learning scientists
  • As a machine learning program manager, you will work with product managers and technical leaders to conceive, scope, prioritize, architect, develop, and deliver strategic machine learning applications
  • Think tactically and strategically to ensure effective end-to-end program management through a solid understanding of product requirements, timelines, and quality objectives
  • Collaborate with engineering and product owners to craft program requirements, set priorities, and establish the scope
  • Optimize scope, schedule, and resources accordingly to manage cross-functional dependencies, risks, and changes while also supporting team health
  • Define and report key results and performance metrics and drive day-to-day team standups and cross-team coordination
  • Coordinate the software development activities of Machine Learning Scientists and Machine Learning Engineers teams
  • Establish mechanisms to optimize team effectiveness. Lead prioritization meetings and status meetings with stakeholders at a regular cadence
  • Coordinate and communicate progress and trade-offs among multiple partners
  • Develop a tangible technical understanding of our marketplace and its machine-learning services
  • Foster and mentor agile development practices for the team
  • Lead with empathy and understanding, and create a safe space to share ideas

They enable users to access a wide range of services including airline tickets, hotel reservations, car rentals, cruises, vacation packages, and various attractions and services via the world wide web and telephone travel agents. Its primary web businesses include Expedia.com, Hotels.com, Hotwire.com, and Egencia.com.

Between 2021 and 2022, Expedia has been selling and merging a list of its sub-brands in a bid to simplify its operations, including Egencia and Classic Vacations. Due to plummeting share prices, mostly in the case of its sub-brands, Expedia has been leveraging its subsidiaries' customer base and merging them into the company’s core brand. Contrasting this move, Expedia has also been partnering with tech start-ups in a bid to make travel more accessible to underserved groups. Becoming Rentable, a travel company for the disabled is one of 12 startups that are part of Expedia Group’s new Open World Accelerator Programme.

What this indicates is Expedia’s shift from buying other travel companies and a move towards enhancing the experience of its preexisting customer base. This move is aiding in a long-term plan for greater long-term traveler loyalty, utilizing Expedia’s vast amounts of data, not just from reviews, but from check-in, cleanliness, communication, cancelations, etc to inform how guests experience a property.
