Our take

Despite advances in technology, we all carry a lot of cards with us - credit cards, loyalty cards, security cards and tickets, all filling up our wallets and purses and costing us lots of time to sort through - not to mention the environmental costs of printing and distributing the cards. PassEntry was founded to solve this problem, using the near-field communication (NFC) functionality of modern smartphones to make cards a thing of the past.

PassEntry replaces a ream of paper and plastic with a secure ticket which is stored on a customer's phone. Businesses can design their tickets, passes and cards to their liking and distribute it directly to any smartphone wallet using PassEntry's API. This reduces production costs, eliminates the risk of counterfeiting and is more convenient for customers. This has led to an almost 40% increase in recurring customers in loyalty card schemes where PassEntry has been deployed.

With customers such as planet and The Surrey Coffee Co, PassEntry has clearly found a solid market niche. While there are many competitors in the NFC payment space, none have yet pushed the technology to include the range of use cases PassEntry is embracing. The challenge will be to overcome larger firm's attachment to legacy security systems and loyalty schemes, but with clear advantages in using the secure, ubiquitous, and increasingly mainstream NFC technology, PassEntry has every chance of succeeding in this space.
