Who you are

- The successful candidate will have 9+ years of broad-based international transactional experience, preferably with a focus on technology, telecommunications, and/or the media industry
- This includes familiarity with civil law jurisdictions (and common law desirable). In-house experience is preferred. Expertise in drafting and negotiating complex partnership arrangements, including outbound and inbound licensing agreements, distribution agreements, and marketing agreements
- Experience with consumer protection and e-commerce laws is a plus
- Fluency in English is required, and working knowledge of an additional EMEA language is preferable
- Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
- Strong analytical judgment and proactive, independent work ethic
- Effective cross-functional collaboration and practical, solution-oriented thinking
- Willingness to tackle challenges outside expertise
- A passion for innovation, courage, and curiosity in a fast-paced environment that values freedom and responsibility
What the job involves
- Netflix seeks an experienced transactional lawyer to provide legal support for its Europe Middle East and Africa operations
- The successful candidate will support the Netflix partnerships team (i.e. business development, product innovation, finance, partner marketing, network) in establishing strategic partnerships across a wide range of partners in the telecommunications, internet service providers, and consumer electronic spaces, and provide legal counseling with respect to a wide range of topics related to Netflix's EMEA operations
- As part of the Netflix team, you will help define the Netflix brand and shape the future of digital entertainment in an environment where collaboration between legal and business thrives
Our take
Netflix was started when one of the co-founders had received a $40 late fee after failing to return a film on time. Now, Netflix is one of the fastest growing technology companies, reinventing the entertainment space by providing high quality content for low fees.
This is becoming an increasingly competitive space, with deep-pocketed rivals including Amazon, Disney, Apple and AT&T. They are all spending big on content and pricing cheaply in a battle to win subscribers.
After a dwindling number of subscribers due to tough competition in 2022, Netflix is focused and committed to improving its core service which is its TV, movies and now games going forward. Post-IPO funding of $183 million from Winslow Capital at the end of 2023 followed the previous year's dumping of shares by the same company after Netflix's first loss of subscribers. This capital indicates a shifting perspective on Netflix's outlook, which saw a year-end subscriber boost.
