Otta's take

COO of Otta

BlackBerry operates in cybersecurity, critical event management, and IoT. The company is perhaps most recognized for its smartphones, that were once the brand of choice in the US. However, in 2016 – under competitive pressure from Apple and Android – the company pivoted into cybersecurity where it has delivered products for securing the ever more connected and vulnerable digital ecosystem.

Today, BlackBerry’s QNX software – the backbone of its security toolkit – is used as the operating and infotainment system in hundreds of millions of cars, as well as in other IoT devices from washing machines to traffic lights. Its cybersecurity success began with its first release, SecuSUITE, that was given official endorsement by the US National Security Agency and has continued as BlackBerry innovates alongside evolving cyberthreats.

More recently, BlackBerry has announced a series of automotive-focused partnerships with companies such as Elecktobit, Car IQ, TTTech and Marelli, towards accelerating the development of in-vehicle and edge software. The company is also involved in a consortium for 5G innovation led by the University of Waterloo.
