Role
Who you are
- We are looking for people with strong Backend Data Engineering capabilities to build highly efficient, resilient systems & pipelines for large-scale data processing

- Very strong generalist python coding
- Requirement of 5+ years of engineering, including 2+ years of work experience in petabyte-level data processing. We will not consider new grads for this role
- Experience engineering large-scale systems that process and serve petabytes of data
- Deep understanding of Kubernetes, SLURM, Ray and other cluster orchestration systems
- Experience working with visual data
- Experience working closely with ML is a strong plus
What the job involves
- You’ll be part of Luma’s applied research team and work directly on mission critical work-streams utilizing thousands of GPUs
- Design, build and automate infrastructure for processing data across multiple clusters of thousands of GPUs
- Work with researchers to identify and implement technical data requirements, and optimize distributed loading for model training
- Work X-functionally for diverse backend engineering needs
- Design & build performant infrastructure to manage and leverage large-scale datasets for our model training
Our take
Luma AI is an AI-based API platform that harnesses the power of NeRF (neural radiance field) technology to create 3D models of any object through its mobile application. The generated 3D models can then be used for a range of digital uses, changing how people share memories, search for products, and reimagining internet and gaming spaces.
By utilizing NeRF technology, the company can bypass traditional programming requirements such as teams of 3D artists or expensive photogrammetry setups, thus democratizing 3D creation by making it accessible to anyone with the app.
While Luma AI faces a growing number of competitors in the space, it will need to focus on advancing and refining its technology to fully compete with AI giants such as OpenAI. However, the company’s focus on its specific area of the market certainly allows it to see vast growth opportunities.
