What the job involves

  • This is a rare opportunity to join a start-up business within Amazon Ads
  • This individual will manage some of our high impact partner relationships as we create a brand new business and revenue stream for Amazon Ads
  • This includes managing relationships and negotiations which may be unconventional in nature, need a centralized advocate, and/or have broader implications to multiple Amazon Ads business units
  • The role requires subject matter expertise in regards to digital advertising and business development experience to incorporate needs of our partners and limitations / opportunity within our advertising tech stack
  • This role will be highly visible with senior levels of Amazon, and will need to work collaboratively with internal management teams to understand where our relative advantages or risks lie, where new market segments and solutions should be created
  • Take the lead to identify, evaluate, negotiate, and manage complex opportunities with partners in the local advertising space
  • Build and grow relationships with partners that are either already integrated with Amazon Ads or demonstrate a desire and willingness to work with us
  • In addition, this individual will be responsible for managing direct relationships with media partners, tracking performance against success criteria and being an internal advocate for our partners
  • Engage externally with agencies, clients, and service providers to scope solutions, partnerships, and business opportunities that result in the acceleration of Amazon Ads growth
  • Manage partner programs and define and implement specific mechanisms against success criteria that will evolve as we grow
  • Work closely with the Sales team to be a key contributor to strategy and the go-to-market approach
  • Work with business leaders from product teams to analyze market data to identify trends/opportunities, utilize network of relationships with the relevant industry to gather market intelligence, and ensure solutions include plans for metrics analysis, technical specifications, development, testing, and launch efforts
  • Work cross-functionally to manage bottlenecks, balance internal business vs. external partner needs, and identify opportunities that can drive growth for the local advertising business
  • Support Sales team ramp by being the subject matter expert on Amazon Advertising – including products/features, Sales strategy, and go-to-market narratives
  • Accelerate Sales productivity by setting up mechanisms to improve business inputs (e.g. weekly and monthly business reporting integration, unique sales trackers and/or dashboards)

Amazon is the world's largest online retailer, and is well-known for its disruption of well-established industries. The company is present in numerous verticals, including cloud computing with Amazon Web Services, AI with its range of Alexa devices and a global marketplace more commonly referred to as 'the everything store'. Acquisitions include Ring, Twitch, Whole Foods Market, and IMDb.

More recently, Amazon has been focused on leading the "third wave in digital advertising". Many businesses are now shifting ad dollars to retailers, which before would have been spent with online media platforms. Amazon's seen great success in the space, with its revenue from advertising now higher than its Amazon Prime membership scheme, audiobooks and digital music combined. This growth is particularly impressive considering its digital ad rivals (like Snap, Alphabet, and Meta) have suffered declines due to wider macroeconomic factors and Apple's iOS privacy changes.

Despite its dominant market position, Amazon will continue to be challenged over the next decade, including sustaining AWS's cloud dominance in the face of Google and Microsoft. On top of this, the company's e-commerce division is facing profitability problems despite its 2023 post-IPO debt funding of 8 billion. It will need to find new ways to stay above their competitors.
