Who you are

  • Experience with serverless architectures, AWS Lambda, and related AWS services (e.g., API Gateway, Step Functions, DynamoDB)
  • Experience with open-source software development, including contributing to projects, code reviews, and collaboration with proficiency in Java programming language
  • Applied knowledge of the AWS Well-Architected Framework, particularly the Serverless Applications Lens
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences

Desirable

  • Experience in infrastructure architecture, database architecture and networking
  • Experience working with end user or developer communities
  • Cloud Technology Certification (such as Solutions Architecture, Cloud Security Professional or Cloud DevOps Engineering)

What the job involves

  • The Amazon Web Services (AWS) Solutions Architect team partners with customers to design and build some of the most scalable, flexible and resilient cloud architectures and solutions
  • AWS Solution Architects on the Powertools team, help customers develop well- architected serverless applications faster using the Powertools for AWS Lambda Opensource project
  • This role works closely with customers, developers, and the Opensource community to design and deploy, Serverless application workloads on the AWS Cloud
  • Solution Architects translate best practices defined in the Serverless lens of the AWS well-architected framework into utilities that simplify the integration of best practices throughout the development lifecycle.
  • As a trusted customer advocate, the Powertools Solution Architect promotes best practices that accelerate development of serverless applications
  • As part of your role you will develop and maintain the Powertools for AWS Lambda project, contributing to its codebase in Python, TypeScript, Java, or .NET
  • You will continuously improve and enhance the project's features, performance, and usability based on customer feedback and industry trends
  • You will engage with customers to understand their serverless application requirements and provide guidance on implementing best practices using Powertools for AWS Lambda
  • You will contribute to the opensource community by participating in discussions, addressing issues, and reviewing pull requests related to the project
  • You will promote the adoption of Powertools for AWS Lambda by creating documentation, tutorials, workshops or demos at customer events
  • You will mentor and guide developers and architects in implementing serverless best practices and leveraging Powertools for AWS Lambda effectively
  • Your will participate in code reviews and provide feedback to ensure adherence to best practices and coding standards
  • You will have the opportunity to shape a strategy to increase customer adoption of AWS Powertools for Lamda. You will achieve this by influencing customers in the opensource community and mobilizing resources within AWS and our extensive partner network
  • Travel is mostly regional, and expected to be 15-20% with some international travel

Amazon is the world's largest online retailer, and is well-known for its disruption of well-established industries. The company is present in numerous verticals, including cloud computing with Amazon Web Services, AI with its range of Alexa devices and a global marketplace more commonly referred to as 'the everything store'. Acquisitions include Ring, Twitch, Whole Foods Market, and IMDb.

More recently, Amazon has been focused on leading the "third wave in digital advertising". Many businesses are now shifting ad dollars to retailers, which before would have been spent with online media platforms. Amazon's seen great success in the space, with its revenue from advertising now higher than its Amazon Prime membership scheme, audiobooks and digital music combined. This growth is particularly impressive considering its digital ad rivals (like Snap, Alphabet, and Meta) have suffered declines due to wider macroeconomic factors and Apple's iOS privacy changes.

Despite its dominant market position, Amazon will continue to be challenged over the next decade, including sustaining AWS's cloud dominance in the face of Google and Microsoft. On top of this, the company's e-commerce division is facing profitability problems despite its 2023 post-IPO debt funding of 8 billion. It will need to find new ways to stay above their competitors.
