Company mission

To move work from the Earth to the Cloud.

Role

Who you are

  • Strong opinions that are weakly held
  • Excellent judgment and discernment. It's okay to admit this, we all have our strengths. And if this is one of your gifts, come join us.💪🏽
  • High EQ! You're working with a true cross-functional team at an exciting, high-growth stage of the company. It's on you to make sure you know how you're coming off and to make sure you are able to keep our feature teams focused on their North Star(s)
  • Empathy. For the Customer, for your fellow teammates, for yourself, and for humanity. (Seriously. We build a product **for all people**. Feeling their pain is key...and shouldn't be too difficult given we're building the future of work: remote, anywhere, hybrid.)
  • Conviction. You're super into ideological conflict, done respectfully and with the ultimate goal of truth, but you won't wilt or balk at the thought of backing up your ideas with rigorous thought. If you need to debate something with other teammates, you can, no questions asked. And you don't mind iterating on your views because your strong opinions are **weakly held**
  • A love for order and efficiency in the work you do, and the desire to keep it up even on a fast-paced team. Keeping it tidy gives you energy and joy, and you never mind tweaking as you get more inputs that get you closer to the truth
  • A desire to constantly update and polish our processes to fit the next stage we reach as a company. We operate as one large LBM loop and keeping our pipes connected requires constantly vigilance. Your commitment to this and passion for it is key
  • A love of web design! Almost missed this one, silly us!
  • A love of video games! Maybe it’s work experience, maybe it’s a personal preference, but either way, we’re looking for people who bring a gaming-inspired-intuition with them to approach their design work
  • Experience with web design, user experience principles, and proficiencies in website related technologies such as HTML/CSS/JS/REACT

What the job involves

  • Design and/or help implement a solution that delights and solves a real problem for the intended target customer
  • Articulate the why behind a design, take in feedback, and iterate at all stages of the development process to get us to right for the customer
  • Help an engineer implement a design, another designer create a solution, all of us understand if what we implemented solved the problem
  • Hop in to whatever part of the value deliver process needs an assist
  • Digging into a customer problem with product
  • Driving an imagineering session
  • Updating our design house, to keep us moving at high velocity and cohesively
  • Solving systemic issues that we keep running into
  • Running user interviews to guide an iteration
  • Styling CSS to help an Eng teammate get something over the line

Otta's take

CTO of Otta

Remote working is becoming the norm for many companies, but without the right tools, communication and connectivity between team members can suffer. SoWork solves this problem with its first-of-its-kind metaverse for coworking.

SoWork's founders first met playing World of Warcraft. During the COVID-19 pandemic, they decided to leverage their knowledge of gaming to create a virtual communication tool for teams. By offering a beta version to companies such as Tinder, the team has been able to rapidly scale its R&D and lengthen its lead over would-be competitors. This includes big-name coworking tools like Slack, which is transitioning from a messaging facility to a virtual HQ.

SoWork has continued to gain traction even as companies begin to move back into the office. Despite this return to in-person workplaces, the company is banking on a larger transition into digital co-working. It believes that virtual offices will soon offer more employee perks and advantages, and companies (even those in growth stage) will be eager not to miss out.
