Company mission

To restore trust and desire for refurbished devices.

Role

Who you are

  • You have significant experience (at least 3 years) as a labour law counsel, ideally in an international company, but law firm experience is also welcome
  • You possess in-depth knowledge of French labour law
  • Knowledge of other applicable laws at Back Market, especially Spanish, German, and British laws, is a plus. However, this is not a requirement as we have extensive internal documentation and common sense is highly valued
  • You excel at communicating efficiently and simplifying complex concepts and are also capable of providing strategic insights
  • You are fluent in both French and English, both spoken and written. Some of your interlocutors, even on French labour law matters, do not speak French, and all team meetings are conducted in English
  • You enjoy multitasking and react quickly

What the job involves

  • We're looking for a Senior Labour Law Counsel to join the People Team on a fixed-term contract (CDD - January-May 2025), covering a maternity leave
  • You'll be the expert for all labour law matters within the Back Market group. Primarily focusing on French labour law (around 80%), you will also work on matters for other Back Market’s entities (Spain, Germany, UK, US, Honk-Kong, Japan, etc.)
  • You will have the opportunity to engage in a wide range of passionate and strategic HR matters, supporting the team and the organization in growing and evolving within a compliant environment
  • Advise various stakeholders (HR, Legal, IT, Cyber, etc.) on all labour law matters: employment contracts, working hours, remuneration, remote work, disciplinary actions, contract termination, intra-group mobility, and more
  • Support teams in defining and implementing projects to ensure full compliance with applicable regulations
  • Draft legal documentation: contract templates, letters, information notes, etc
  • Manage pre-litigation and litigation cases (strategy definition, document drafting, case preparation, review of conclusions) in collaboration with law firms
  • Organize and lead CSE meetings
  • Liaise with the CSE and trade unions
  • Draft and, if necessary, negotiate collective documentation (internal regulations, unilateral decisions, collective agreements, etc.)
  • Prepare documentation and training materials for HR and managers
  • Conduct legal watch to ensure we remain up-to-date in all the countries where the Group operates

Our take

At a time when new smartphones launch frequently but with fewer new features and when individuals want to contribute to sustainability and the circular economy, Back Market is setting out to provide customers with a viable option of purchasing refurbished electronics goods.

The vision of the company is to become the default choice when it comes to electronics purchases, irrespective of the customers' budget. In order to materialize this vision, Back Market guarantees that all the devices sold on its platform are 100% functional. The company screens sellers before allowing them to join its platform and it monitors their performance in real-time by collecting detailed customer feedback. By doing this, they hope to restore trust in refurbished devices and to make sustainability an easy, safe, and affordable choice.

Back Market operates in 16 counties and has a client roster that includes Netflix, Disney, BBC, Sony, and Apple. The company has raised over $1 billion in capital, which has been invested in expansion across new and current markets.
