Who you are

  • Have a B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Computer Science or another technical field
  • Have 10+ years of industry experience in a Software Engineering role
  • Have experience with defining, managing and scaling AWS solutions via infrastructure as code tools
  • Have designed, operated and maintained large distributed systems in production
  • Can synthesize customer input and architectural knowledge to create outsized engineering impact
  • Have strong experience with one of: (Java, C++, C#, Go)
  • Have experience designing and managing AWS compatible platforms or systems to achieve high volume, COGS competitive distributed data processing
  • Have familiarity with one of: (Python, Javascript, Typescript)
  • Have working knowledge of a columnar OLAP database
  • Have interest or experience in technical leadership of an engineering team

What the job involves

  • We are looking for a backend engineer to help us:
  • 100x our scale for ingesting and processing qualitative data to reliably serve the traffic from customers who are among the most visited websites globally
  • Define the foundations for qualitative information storage and retrieval at Amplitude
  • The team is fast moving and you will be expected to iterate quickly and own, drive and achieve cross-team alignment on technical design tradeoffs for the short, medium and long term
  • Lead projects for features that have high business impact
  • Lead the team on defining SLAs and upholding operational excellence for the SR ingestion systems
  • Contribute to the technical direction of the team, product, and systems
  • Lead performance optimization and scaling efforts
  • Take product ideas from ideation to implementation
  • Develop components and services that expand the capabilities of our analytics product
  • Participate and collaborate with Product and Design Team to iterate on our product
  • Lead engineering discussions and mentor others on engineering best practices
  • Mentor and contribute to the success of junior engineers

Amplitude’s user flows reveal which actions are the most commonly taken after users sign up, and which usually precede purchases made in-app, creating paths through the app. The behaviour of individual app users can be viewed with unlimited real-time activity feeds and user timelines.

In 2024, a securities fraud case was filed against Amplitude due to an IPO and stock share rise that was alleged to be artificially inflated before their downturn in 2022.
