Company mission

BlueLabs' mission is to help organizations improve the efficacy of their communications with individuals, fine-tune their strategy, identify opportunities, and measure outcomes.

Role

Who you are

  • 2+ years of applied experience working with structured/unstructured data
  • An undergraduate degree in a quantitative field or equivalent technical training
  • Advanced understanding of how to manipulate data using SQL or Python
  • Proficiency in one or more general or statistical programming languages, particularly Python, to systematically solve problems, and interest in learning new tools and techniques
  • Experience going from insight to impact: using the results of your analysis to tell an informative and engaging story through visualization, presentation, and writing. Experience with Tableau is a plus
  • Experience guiding several analyses from ideation through to final analysis for a client - possibly even driving a change in behavior
  • Experience developing solutions that blend data-driven decision-making with thoughtful understanding of human-centered design/processes
  • Proficiency creating and testing data transformation processes, and automating repeatable tasks. Experience working in Snowflake and DBT is a plus
  • Ability to extend your expertise to guide more junior analysts to take their work from 80% to done. You may have done this by: quality checking results, helping to organize raw analysis into consumable stories and recommendations, adding context, or refining ideation and solutioning in the team’s work
  • Passion in applying your skills to our social mission to problem-solve and collaborate within a cross-functional, client-facing team environment
  • The ability to successfully attain and maintain a Federal Public Trust background investigation that our government clients require; this includes a requirement that the individual has U.S. Citizenship or U.S. residency for three of the past five years (36 of the past 60 months). Resumes should include residency information for the past 5 years of experience

What the job involves

  • This position reports to the Analytics Lead, and will play an instrumental role in a portfolio of work that includes iterative development of reports and dashboards, client-driven ad-hoc analytics requests, and consumer outreach performance monitoring and analytics to support a large federal paid media and direct response (SMS, email, phone) program
  • The Senior Data Analyst II will tackle hands-on analytics and propose thoughtful new ideas on our deliverables that advance program objectives and inform client decision making
  • Analyze data from disparate sources to distill human-centered operations and processes into meaningful insights, and evaluate and improve the effectiveness of large-scale healthcare related directly addressable (email, SMS, autodial, etc.) and paid media outreach campaigns
  • Devise data analysis and data management to create systematic methods of measuring performance across complex systems and technical implementations
  • Critically evaluate analytical processes, tools, and deliverables, and offer informed opinions on solutions that improve the quality of the team’s work
  • Develop KPIs and metrics that address root problems and develop compelling visualizations to allow clients to easily understand challenges and take a clear action
  • Check, clean and transform incoming data for data pipelines, and help others to do the same
  • Collaborate with engineers, data scientists, program managers and external stakeholders to troubleshoot problems and proactively create solutions
  • Strive to support team excellence by developing high quality documentation
  • Take ownership of task areas and strive to independently resolve challenges, and guide more junior analysts to do the same in order to deliver accurate products on short deadlines

Otta's take

BlueLabs leverages big data to gain an understanding of and engagement with audiences, allowing its customers to launch more effective communications campaigns. The majority of its work initially came through political campaigns and social impact drives, though the company has expanded its activities into more commercial fields like brand perception and sales in the last few years.

BlueLabs has an interesting origin story, with the founding quartet all working in senior analytics roles for the Democratic Party during the 2012 presidential campaign, where Barrack Obama won a second term against Mitt Romney.

Though the jury is still out on the ethics of big data methods for political motivation - for instance, the Cambridge Analytica scandal regarding its use of social media data in influencing elections - this approach has proven to be extremely effective in persuading and activating audiences. There’s also little doubt that it can be used for great causes too, as shown by BlueLabs’ work with the likes of the UN Refugee Agency, and environmental organization The Sierra Club.
