Who you are

  • A coding language is just a tool for you and you are comfortable switching from one to another as required for the task, and you possess a demonstrable ability and willingness to learn new technologies quickly with minimal guidance
  • Proven track record solving technically challenging problems and integrating multiple software components to form meaningful solutions
  • Experience in API development (e.g. REST, gRPC, GraphQL, SDK development)
  • Experience in operating, and maintaining, CI/CD pipelines

  • Ability to balance immediate technology and business needs against future goals, and considers implications of changes across the whole product

  • Willing to travel within the UK for company-wide meetings (usually once per quarter) and team events (as required, but not often more than once a month)

Desirable

  • Exposure to distributed/decentralised systems and messaging protocols
  • Relevant technical experience in areas such as decentralised systems (p2p) and fault-tolerant systems, cloud native architectures, infrastructure, real-time systems and reactive programming
  • Experience of building, deploying and operating containerised services (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, Terraform) within on-prem and cloud (e.g. AWS)
  • Interest in semantic web technologies (RDF, SPARQL)

What the job involves

  • As a Senior Software Engineer at IOTICS, you’ll help us design and build the software that underpins our product, IOTICSpace
  • This role is multifaceted and will provide an opportunity to work on a broad range of technologies across our stack including p2p networks, management of metadata, the internal bus, web API, network API and build/deploy pipelines
  • Create architecture and design proposals for new features considering factors such as development time, maintenance, team capability, business risk, scalability and performance and use your capability in multiple languages used at IOTICS to implement these designs in a highly robust, easily maintainable way
  • Use your knowledge of quality engineering to produce reliable code with few downstream issues, using automation
  • Analyse and improve the efficiency, testability, maintainability, scalability and stability of our product(s) across the different microservices
  • Have an end-user mindset and consider factors such as documentation, usability, complexity, monitoring, troubleshooting and deployment
  • Be open minded and collaborate with the other team members via mob-programming, knowledge sharing and peer review
  • Mentoring and supporting other engineers
  • Apply knowledge of required business outcomes in the evaluation of priorities and engineering decisions
