Company mission

To save engineering time and increases trust by letting data teams know when things break, what went wrong, and how to fix it — before an executive messages them about a broken dashboard.

Role

Who you are

  • You have 5+ years of sales, alliances, sales engineering, and/or business development experience in the cloud/technology ecosystem. (Note: you don’t have to have partnership experience to do a great job at this role!)
  • You love building relationships and being a public face of the company
  • You’re great at thinking strategically, communicating initiatives internally and externally, driving results, and tracking and articulating your progress
  • You’re methodical and organized, and thrive in a role with a lot of variety in the day-to-day work
  • You believe in doing things for other people before you make asks of them
  • You’re curious and not afraid to try new things to differentiate Metaplane and generate new opportunities
  • You have a passion for the modern data stack
  • You love using data to identify new opportunities and understand outcomes
  • You like making opportunities happen out of belief and elbow grease

Desirable

  • Already have deep connections to one or more of Metaplane’s platform integrators

What the job involves

  • As strategic partnerships manager, you’ll own every aspect of Metaplane’s partnership program, from strategy to execution
  • You’ll work closely with our co-founders, sales, and marketing teams to strengthen relationships with the many partners we work with by creating co-marketing activities, identifying co-selling opportunities, and developing product relationships, with the ultimate goal of accelerating partnership revenue — one of our most effective channels to date
  • You’ll have the opportunity to work on many different initiatives across Metaplane’s platform integrators, data consultancies, and app marketplaces including Snowflake, Brooklyn Data Co, Orchard Analytics, AWS, GCP, and Azure. You won’t be developing this program from scratch
  • We have existing relationships with key technology partners and consultancies, but we’re looking for someone to turn the relationships and data we’ve collected into a professionalized and repeatable playbook
  • This is a highly visible and critical role with significant impact on the success of Metaplane overall, and reports to Metaplane’s Head of Sales
  • A day in the life:
  • 9:30 AM - Jump on a call with Sigma Computing’s partnerships team to discuss co-selling opportunities
  • 10:30 AM - Refine Metaplane’s referral framework based on feedback from the co-founders
  • 12:00 PM - Present at Metaplane’s All-Hands about the latest version of our referral program
  • 1:30 PM - Coach Metaplane’s AEs on how to drive alignment with partner AEs
  • 2:00 PM - Strategize with Metaplane’s Head of Sales about our partner strategy for Snowflake Summit
  • 3:30 PM - Brainstorm ideas for a co-marketing campaign with Fivetran with Metaplane’s marketing team
  • Establish relationships with key players at platform integrators and data consultancies
  • Develop strategies for increasing Metaplane’s awareness with reps at platform integrators and data consultancies
  • Identify opportunities to engage partner AEs and plan co-sell engagements between Metaplane AEs and partner AEs
  • Create and communicate programs referral programs
  • Identify untapped co-marketing opportunities
  • Develop marketing collateral that moves the needle for partners and potential customers
  • Measure the success of all of the above, then continually iterate and refine

Our take

The amount of data the companies process - and the number of tools available to handle it - has increased exponentially in recent years. While platforms exist to monitor the performance of data software, not much exists to monitor the data itself, leading to data used in business critical applications sometimes becoming unreliable and requiring time-consuming and expensive QA.

Metaplane positions itself as a "DataDog for data", targeting quality issues by using anomaly detection models to find issues in a customer's data stack in real time, including the data warehouses which the data comes from. This allows data teams to swiftly locate and triage issues, before erroneous data hits a dashboard. While there is a growing roster of competitors entering the observability space, including Cribl, Monte Carlo and Manta, Metaplane seeks to stand out with its focus on product data, where its proprietary algorithms outshine Meta's Prophet library used by most competitors.

Metaplane has amassed a solid customer base of over 140 companies including Imperfect Foods, Appcues and Reforge. It closed a Series A funding round in 2024 off of its successes so far. This investment is going towards the development of its AI-powered observability platform. In the longer term, it will move into other business areas beyond product. As companies continue to grapple with the reliability of their data, Metaplane is well-placed to build a significant business in this sector.
