Who you are

  • Proven experience in people management, progression management, and day-to-day support
  • Ability to mentor and support other line managers
  • Strong motivational skills to inspire developers and technical teams
  • Experience in team and organisational growth, with the ability to identify progression trajectories and build high-performing teams
  • Track record of successful software project delivery, including planning tasks and milestones in the short and long term
  • Expertise in fostering technical collaboration, promoting cross-team sharing and learning

What the job involves

  • Leading & motivating developers, both directly and indirectly, and supporting the performance of the development team as a whole
  • Monitoring development team performance and effectiveness, identifying and acting on issues where necessary
  • Line management of Developers. This includes performance reviews, time management, ongoing role support etc
  • Escalation point for line managers of developers, resolving people management issues as required
  • Setting standards, processes and guidelines on how line management is done across the development team
  • Supporting Technical Delivery Leads with sharing ideas and techniques across the development team
  • Working closely with the Development Director to establish and deliver effective team growth and direction. Providing good visibility to the wider Leadership Team
  • Ensuring the skills and competencies of developers are used effectively, in collaboration with Technical Delivery Leads
  • Lead on recruitment activities as the team grows, working closely with the relevant Technical Delivery Leads and the Development Director
  • Onboarding of new developers (with support from Tech Leads and People Managers)
  • Manage performance of contracting/freelancing staff
  • Act as a Chapter Lead within your area of expertise
  • Identify and establish technical-based Guilds/Working Groups to support the progression of development techniques and technology
