Who you are
- You have a computer science background and 1-3 years of work experience
- You are an independent worker and like to find creative solutions and work with new tech
- You have a strong interest in software architecture and are eager to learn more about it
- Practical experience with a modern OOP programming language like PHP or Java, design patterns, OOP, and automated tests
- Experience in building web-based applications (SaaS)
- Knowledge of web security, common vulnerabilities and their mitigations
- A creative mindset with the ability to help solve challenging domain problems
Desirable
- Experience within life sciences, healthtech or e-clinical products
- Experience with authentication standards like OAuth 2, OIDC and/or SAML and authentication systems like Keycloak, Auth0 and/or Okta
- Experience with Kubernetes
- Experience with decentralized access control systems
What the job involves
- As a Software Engineer (Backend), you’ll be joining our new identity team
- Here you’ll work on features and (internal) APIs to support authentication, user management, digital signatures and access control checks
- We aim to provide our customers with one central account to access all Castor applications, as well as one centralized access control system
- Concurrently, you will support other product teams to replace their (legacy) identity and access control functionality with the applications, APIs and libraries we develop

Castor’s cloud-based clinical data management platform allows clinical trials to be carried out faster and in a more decentralised and patient-focused manner. Some of the biggest roadblocks to successful clinical trials are the length of time they can take, a lack of diversity in participants, and a simple shortage of trial subjects. Castor’s tech allows researchers to overcome these obstacles by more easily capturing and integrating data.
Castor, along with other med tech startups like Thread and Florence garnered praise during 2020 as a lot of medical research transitioned to virtual. In a clinical trials market that’s worth over $40 billion worldwide and still growing, the fact that Castor counts the WHO in its customer base is encouraging.
Backed by Eight Roads Ventures and F-Prime Capital, Castor is aiming to use its funding round to continue product development, data gathering, and increase its manpower, with a view to expanding operations beyond the US and into Asia.
