Role

Who you are

  • 3+ years of work experience writing/explaining life insurance, ideally to a layperson audience
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills and attention to detail
  • Commitment to writing accurate, clean copy with original sources

  • Use primary sources for all research and provide those sources when you turn copy in
  • Go beyond product descriptions, using competitor analysis to come up with a point of view that can help consumers make a choice
  • In some cases, provide educational copy to help consumers better understand life insurance products and how to choose a carrier
  • Write 4-12 pieces monthly, though assignment volumes vary as needed

Otta's take

Sam Franklin headshot

Sam Franklin

CEO of Otta

Formed from the 2021 acquisition of Meredith by Dotdast, Meredith Dotdash is the largest digital and print publisher in the US, encompassing over 40 brands such as PEOPLE, Better Homes & Gardens, Verywell, Allrecipes, and many more.

The approach that built this media giant was to build websites with fast load-times and few adds. A clean site keeps readers longer, boosting its rankings in search algorithms. Ads can then be less frequent but sold at a premium, because of the readership. The company was also an early adopter of affiliate links through product reviews and articles that suggest items for purchase.

The merger of the Dotdash and Meredith teams and tech brought benefits in both directions, making Meredith sites faster and increasing story output for Dotdash. Recently, the company launched a targeting tool named D/Cipher - that makes intent-based targeting possible at scale, without cookies - showcasing that the giant is entirely able to move at the front of the tech-evolving ad media landscape.
