  • You appreciate the value of analyzing, benchmarking and optimizing tools using data and direct feedback from engineers
  • You love solving for and collaborating with developers and engineering teams
  • 5+ years of experience in a productionalized environment as a software engineer, preferably in hyper-growth startups or fast-paced companies
  • Strong understanding of system design and architecture principles, with the ability to drive technical projects from conception to implementation
  • Experience leading full-stack technical projects and building internal tools, with a focus on prioritizing developer experience and facilitating technical decisions across engineering teams
  • Comfortable learning new languages to solve problems, with proficiency in Node.js (primary language), React/Django/Python framework (for Alloy dashboard stack), PostgreSQL/Elasticsearch (data stores), AWS (basic understanding), Docker (container management), Python and shell scripting (console tools)
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively on engineering teams, with strong adaptability to meet the needs of a rapidly-evolving product and growth-oriented environment

Desirable

  • Familiarity with open-source development tools, showcasing a broader understanding of industry standards and best practices
  • Bonus points for previous experience in owning or maintaining test infrastructures, highlighting a commitment to ensuring code quality and reliability

What the job involves

  • The Platform team is the backbone of our organization, driving the expansion and optimization of our platform to accommodate our growing user base
  • In the Engineering Enablement function, your role serves as a catalyst for empowering our engineering teams to innovate and excel
  • Stay curious: Always on the lookout to keep our tech stack updated with current standards
  • Drive roadmap execution: translate our internal tools and engineering enablement vision into a concrete roadmap for development and implementation
  • Build world-class technical tools: architect, develop, test, and deploy extensively used internal tools and pipelines using technologies tailored to our organization's needs. Our tech stack includes JavaScript (ES6/React), Python (Django), Node.js/TypeScript, PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, and AWS
  • Leave it better than you found it: ship high-impact high-quality, and thoroughly tested code. Recognize and address bottlenecks swiftly through iterative improvements, and uphold a high standard of quality through meticulous code reviews
  • Embrace Ownership: Take full ownership of areas you own or contribute to from start to finish. We own everything from day-day development CLIs, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, debugging, testing and telemetry tools
  • Be a team player: Collaborate with teams on planning and designing scalable systems that are secure and reliable. Provide technical mentorship and guidance to fellow engineers, fostering a positive and inclusive culture of continuous learning and improvement
  • In this role, you’ll have the agency to improve engineering challenges while working with a team of missionary builders

Our take

In recent years, there has been an enormous shift towards online banking, a trend that’s unlikely to turn around with surveys showing that more than half of US banking customers don’t intend to return to branches in person. The rise in digital onboarding has aroused concern about both the speed and labour of ID verification, as well as fraud potential. Alloy was built to help connect banks and fintech companies to more sources of KYC, AML and other compliance data.

The company's single API identity verification platform allows financial institutions to secure against the risk of fraud and misjudged risk decisions when onboarding new customers online. Alloy also helps to improve customer conversion through the compliance funnel and speed up previously manual back-office processes.

The company serves the burgeoning fintech market, a lucrative market with a 25% annual growth rate and already has notable clients in the form of Radius Bank and Aspiration. Alloy's main competition in the future will likely come from financial institutions themselves, who will have to decide on buying the company's solution or building their own in-house. Regardless, Alloy's global expansion efforts have created substantial growth opportunity.
