Role

Who you are

  • You have experience creating end-to-end ML solutions for the Trust & Safety space: analyzing data, building and iterating on machine learning models, writing production-level code and shipping to production, monitoring performance, and A/B testing
  • You write clean and robust code in Python or other programming languages and have a keen eye for detail in code reviews
  • You have experience debugging complex systems with a systematic approach
  • You have a curious mindset and dive deeply into datasets to understand our product and customers
  • You have solid communication skills and write clear documentation
  • You have a growth mindset and aspire to continuously improve your soft and technical skills
  • You are energized about building the first version of systems and are passionate about keeping creators and users safe with new machine learning solutions

What the job involves

  • Work on cutting edge Trust & Safety Machine Learning solutions for detecting fraud, mitigating fake accounts and account takeovers, detecting image and text policy violations, reducing data scraping, and others
  • Conduct exploratory data analyses and proof-of-concept machine learning models to understand opportunities and potential project impact
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners, such as product, engineering, design, legal, and trust and safety to design effective machine learning solutions
  • Analyze and prepare training data, including using crowdsourcing and Large Language Model data labeling techniques
  • Train and iterate on machine learning models using novel techniques, including state-of-the-art image models, and Large Language Models for text classification
  • Deploy machine learning models to production and write backend code when necessary to properly deploy the model
  • Debug models when observability shows performance gaps, and iterate on models

Our take

Creatives face two major struggles in the online space: getting eyes (or ears) on their work, and getting paid for it. Patreon was founded to solve both problems with a platform that would provide a space for creators to host and promote their work, and offer supporters a way to show their support through a regular paid subscription.

Patreon has been a leader in the content subscription space since its founding, but recently has come under pressure from newer rivals such as Substack and Ko-fi. It has maintained its position by shifting its focus from being primarily a marketplace for supporters to find creatives that interest them to being a toolbox for content creators to promote their work. While the site's creatives value this approach it remains to be seen whether Patreon will be able to return to the growth it was enjoying in previous years.

Despite the inroads made by competitors and a troubling global economic outlook making finances tougher for content creators and their supporters, Patreon is still a leader in its space, with over its over 250,000 active creators having made $3.5 billion through the platform. It is going through a period of downsizing to focus on its core business, and is continuing to hire talent to improve its product and expand its marketing efforts.
