Otta's take

CEO of Otta

Many organizations are prone to wasting resources on managing countless files and optimizing storage performance, with analytics professionals and data scientists often spending more time on data engineering and deployment than analysis and collaboration. TileDB aims to restore the balance with its universal data engine.

Using technology that was first developed at MIT, the engine is built to support any kind of data as multi-dimensional arrays on any backend, with a pluggable compute/query engine. This allows professionals to access, analyze, and share complex data sets with any tool. The company works with firms managing genetic data such as the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative and Helix, as well as satellite operators like Capella Space.

Following a successful funding round, TileDB looked to significantly increase its headcount. It also recently received a strategic investment from Verizon Ventures, which will be used to propel the development of its database as well as ramping up its go-to-market functions.
