Role
Who you are
- At least 7 years of experience in software engineering
- At least 2 years of engineering management experience
- Demonstrated experience operating critical, high-traffic infrastructure, including proficiency with monitor (via golden signals and service-specific metrics, logs, and traces), unix network debugging, scaling, and proactively addressing performance and reliability concerns
- An ability to balance long-term strategic thinking with short-term planning
- Experience in creating, delivering, and operating multi-tenanted, distributed systems at scale
- You can be hands-on when needed – whether that’s writing/reviewing code or technical documents, participating in on-call rotations and leading incidents, or triaging/troubleshooting bugs
- Your passion for building an open financial system that brings the world together drives you to excel in this role
Desirable
- Experience with distributed systems and understanding of concepts such as active-active cluster design
- You have gone through a rapid growth in your company (from 10 to 100s of engineers)
- You’ve built financial, high reliability or security systems
What the job involves
- The manager of the Cloud Provisioning team will be responsible for overseeing the strategy and execution of our Infra Provisioning experience
- They will be accountable for improving the developer experience around cloud account provisioning and infrastructure provisioning
- The individual will need to be customer focused (internal engineers) and excel at collaborating with the rest of teams within the organization for alignment
- Build and manage engineering teams, to guide the development of features, services, and infrastructure across both web and mobile
- Coach your direct reports to have a positive impact on the organization and support their career growth
- Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership to translate our vision into a tangible roadmap on a quarterly basis. Break down complex projects into smaller pieces and lead the iterative design and implementation process
- Be a thoughtful technical voice within the team, aiding in diligent architectural decisions and fostering a culture of high-quality code and engineering processes. Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to ensure successful delivery and operation of multi-tenanted, distributed systems at scale
- Work closely with our talent organization to identify and recruit exceptional engineers who align with Coinbase's culture and contribute to our products
- Contribute to and take ownership of processes that drive engineering quality and meet our engineering SLAs
Our take
Coinbase allows its users to create their own crypto wallets and start buying or selling cryptocurrencies by connecting with their bank accounts. It also provides a series of merchant payment processing systems and tools that support transactions with many popular websites.
Coinbase has recently made a big push to broaden its services away from consumers and they want to cater services from institutional investors.
Coinbase currently offers one of the largest selection of cryptocurrency assets - over 10,000 but does not allow trading on all of them. The company wisely keeps such offerings to the most stable assets however, the list is always expanding. Coinbase see a much wider adoption of cryptocurrency and tokens in the future, and plan to expand potentially to millions in the future. It speaks volumes to Coinbase's goals of wider global adoption that former UK Finance Minister George Osborne is now an Advisor at the company.
Coinbase's lofty ambitions paid off in it being the first crypto listing on the NASDAQ. The company has weathered several bull and bear runs in the cryptocurrency industry through diversification of its offerings, including wallet-as-a-service technology for crypto platforms, and has acquired healthy coffers of cryptocurrency assets. The aim is to eventually operate independently of the volatility surrounding cryptocurrencies.
