Otta's take

Xav Kearney headshot

Xav Kearney

CTO of Otta

With cyber threats continuously developing, a company’s cyber security policy needs to remain robust and continuously up to date. CowBell Cyber is an insurtech company offering AI-powered cyber risk modelling and underwriting to small and medium sized businesses to help manage this threat, as well as support in addressing security risks.

CowBell Cyber joined the cyber insurance industry just as ransomware attacks increased 500% in 2019, spotlighting the acute need for businesses to take preemptive protective measures. CowBell has managed to rapidly establish itself as a leader in the market. The company has developed the largest cyber insurance distribution network in the US and covers over 70% of the US SME market in its monitored risk pool.

CowBell Cyber's focus on SMEs has proven astute, despite an initial reluctance on the part of smaller enterprises to take out cyber insurance. It managed to activate this demographic through continuous underwriting, AI-based risk selection and pricing, and compressing issuance processes to within minutes. The company's growth is vindicated by new funding that will fuel the expansion of its team, products and technologies, and its lofty goals to triple the customer base.
