Who you are
- Navan is seeking a highly motivated Senior Tax Manager to join our growing Tax team
- The successful candidate will be able to manage complex workflows and navigate effectively through uncertainty while prioritizing business needs
- The ideal candidate should be able to work and adapt in a fast-paced environment, perform their duties timely and accurately, communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders and work with teams in multiple time-zones
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting (CPA a plus)
- 10+ years tax reporting and compliance experience with 4+ years of public accounting experience in ASC 740 or equivalent in-house experience
- Proactive and resourceful team player with positive attitude and energy in a fast-paced and changing environment
- Hands-on experience in the calculation of quarterly and annual tax provisions with a working knowledge of ASC740 and international tax matters
- Strong organizational and planning skills with the ability to prioritize and manage a demanding workload involving multiple tasks, responsibilities, and tight deadlines
- Excellent communication (verbal and written)
- Excellent use of Excel, Google Suite, and hands-on exposure to Netsuite accounting systems

What the job involves
- The Senior Tax Manager will lead direct tax operations, with an emphasis on building out and optimizing the tax provision and financial statement reporting process

- This role will be highly visible to the overall finance leadership team and will participate in strategic financial planning, providing insights on tax implications of potential business opportunities
- The role will be based in Palo Alto (HQ) or San Francisco and will report to the Head of Tax
- Manage the quarterly and annual worldwide consolidated tax provision and related financial statement disclosures in accordance with ASC 740
- Manage the worldwide tax compliance process in collaboration with outside providers
- Lead and mentor a team of tax professionals in various jurisdictions, providing guidance and fostering their professional development
- Prepare federal, state, and international income tax analyses - some items include the R&D credit, stock based compensation, return-to-provisions, and fixed asset depreciation
- Build out internal controls and maintain documentation and appropriate processes
- Assist with tax planning projects, including modeling and forecasting of tax impacts
- Drive tax process improvements, technological enhancements, and evolution of the tax reporting function
- Monitor legislative, administrative, and judicial developments and quantify tax impacts
- Research and memorialize tax technical issues and positions and ensure proper documentation
- Work closely with third-party consultants and auditors to ensure all income tax requirements are achieved both timely and accurately

Having expanded from its core travel expense management product, it now offers a corporate card and general expenses management, underwriting its customers' short term business expenses with its own Liquid financial offering. Navan has a list of impressive clients, including Glassdoor, Zoom, and Shopify.
Moving forwards, the company is focused on gaining more reach, especially in Europe. As part of the expanded go-to-market strategy, it rebranded to Navan with a more people-centric design approach. It also combined its travel, corporate card and expense services into a single app which is now available to individual users rather than only through a corporate account. This will be key in bridging the gap between business travel and consumer apps.
