Company mission

Their mission is to create an open financial system for the world and to be the leading global brand for helping people convert digital currency into and out of their local currency.

Role

Who you are

  • First, we look for candidates who will thrive in a culture like ours, where we default to trust, embrace feedback, and disrupt ourselves
  • Second, we expect all employees to commit to our mission-focused approach to our work
  • Most importantly, we seek people who are excited about crypto, because those are the folks who enjoy the intense moments in our sprint and recharge work culture
  • You’ve got positive energy. You’re optimistic about the future and determined to get there
  • You’re never tired of learning. You want to be a pro in bleeding edge tech like DeFi, NFTs, DAOs, and Web 3.0
  • You appreciate direct communication. You’re both an active communicator and an eager listener - because let’s face it, you can’t have one without the other. You’re cool with candid feedback and see every setback as an opportunity to grow
  • You can pivot on the fly. Crypto is constantly evolving, so our priorities do, too. What you worked on last month may not be what you work on today, and that excites you. You’re not looking for a boring job
  • You have a “can do” attitude. Our teams create high-quality work on quick timelines. Owning a problem doesn’t scare you, but rather empowers you to take 100% responsibility for achieving our mission
  • You want to be part of a winning team. We’re stronger together, and you’re a person who embraces being pushed out of your comfort zone
  • Experience in Enterprise Architecture: At least five (5) years of hands-on experience in Enterprise Architecture, with a proven track record of collaboration with domain, data, and security engineers, as well as solution architects
  • Expertise in Architecture Standards: Demonstrated ability to develop, document, and publish Enterprise Architecture guidelines and design patterns that align with organizational objectives
  • Cybersecurity: Proficient in security best practices including authentication, authorization, encryption, integration key management, and logging
  • Technical Debt Management: Significant experience in leading efforts to identify, monitor, and strategically reduce technical debt across the enterprise
  • OKRs Delivery with Architectural Impact: Strong background in setting and achieving Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) that have broad and lasting impacts on architectural decisions and outcomes
  • Team Collaboration and Leadership: History of working within high-performing teams, offering constructive feedback, and fostering an environment of continuous improvement
  • Escalation Management and Decision-Making: Skilled in handling complex escalations, effectively communicating trade-offs, and driving decisions to timely and successful resolutions
  • Effective Stakeholder Communication: Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex architectural concepts to a diverse range of stakeholders, including senior technical and business leaders, subject matter experts, peers, and technical delivery teams

Desirable

  • Passion for Emerging Technologies: Strong enthusiasm for the crypto, blockchain, and NFT industries, with an understanding of their impact on the economy
  • Enterprise Platform Experience: Familiarity with enterprise platforms such as Salesforce.com, NetSuite, Anaplan, Workday, Contentful, or comparable systems, with the ability to leverage these tools effectively
  • Performance Optimization for High-Load Systems: Experience in designing or enhancing the performance of high-load customer service platforms, ensuring scalability and reliability
  • Quantitative Risk Modeling in Architecture: Experience in developing quantitative architecture risk models, including the measurement of technical debt and trade-offs using risk factors
  • Understanding of SDLC Methodologies: Knowledge of various Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodologies, including both Agile and non-Agile approaches
  • Systems-Level Programming Proficiency: Proficiency in at least one systems-level programming language, with Go being highly preferred
  • Frontend and Backend Development Skills: Familiarity with modern development frameworks and languages, including Go, React, JavaScript, TypeScript, and their related ecosystems
  • Data Management Expertise: Experience with SQL and modern data stores, such as Snowflake, for managing and querying large datasets
  • Salesforce Architecture Knowledge: Deep understanding of Salesforce (SFDC) architecture, including multi-org strategies and customization best practices
  • Proficiency with Development and Collaboration Tools: Strong proficiency in using Git, Confluence, Jira, LeanIX, or equivalent tools for version control, documentation, project management, and enterprise architecture

What the job involves

  • To strengthen our growing Enterprise Applications team, we are looking for an experienced Staff Enterprise Architect, who is passionate about transforming technology into critical business value
  • The architect will synthesize business objectives into key technology decisions and partner with business functions and engineering teams to buy, build, and scale software applications and platforms with a focus on design patterns, portfolio management, technical debt, security, and master data
  • Provide leadership and expertise in the development, maintenance, and governance of enterprise architecture guidelines and design patterns to ensure the reliability and scalability of the application ecosystem
  • Develop and maintain technical roadmaps to guide the evolution of the application ecosystem from current to future states, aligning with strategic and business capability roadmaps
  • Drive application portfolio health programs focused on identifying, mitigating, and eliminating technical debt and security hardening where appropriate
  • Evaluate new applications and platforms to ensure alignment with the organization’s technology and governance strategies, policies, and standards from business, application, data, solution, and technology perspectives
  • Develop and maintain system diagrams that illustrate the relationship between business value, capabilities, and technology
  • Contribute to an Architecture Forum of architects and engineers, facilitating collaboration, debate, and education on acceptable design patterns and solutions
  • Lead the analysis and evaluation of leading and emerging technologies and market trends, assessing their impact and opportunities for the enterprise architecture, with a focus on digital capabilities and innovations to support business strategy
  • Work closely with solution architects to provide frameworks, guidelines, and best practices for implementing and configuring applications and database technologies
  • Contribute to large-scale, enterprise-wide transformation initiatives, overseeing technical aspects from current state assessments through delivery and execution

Our take

Coinbase allows its users to create their own crypto wallets and start buying or selling cryptocurrencies by connecting with their bank accounts. It also provides a series of merchant payment processing systems and tools that support transactions with many popular websites.

Coinbase has recently made a big push to broaden its services away from consumers and they want to cater services from institutional investors.

Coinbase currently offers one of the largest selection of cryptocurrency assets - over 10,000 but does not allow trading on all of them. The company wisely keeps such offerings to the most stable assets however, the list is always expanding. Coinbase see a much wider adoption of cryptocurrency and tokens in the future, and plan to expand potentially to millions in the future. It speaks volumes to Coinbase's goals of wider global adoption that former UK Finance Minister George Osborne is now an Advisor at the company.

Coinbase's lofty ambitions paid off in it being the first crypto listing on the NASDAQ. The company has weathered several bull and bear runs in the cryptocurrency industry through diversification of its offerings, including wallet-as-a-service technology for crypto platforms, and has acquired healthy coffers of cryptocurrency assets. The aim is to eventually operate independently of the volatility surrounding cryptocurrencies.
