Who you are

  • 10+ years of experience in brand marketing and creative leadership roles, preferably within top B2C retail or e-commerce brands
  • Proven track record of building and scaling brands, leading full-funnel marketing campaigns, and delivering high-impact creative work
  • Experience advising C-suite executives on brand strategy, market positioning, and rebranding efforts
  • Strong leadership skills with experience in building and managing cross-functional teams
  • Deep understanding of consumer behavior, market trends, and the competitive landscape
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to think strategically while being hands-on with creative and brand execution

What the job involves

  • As the Head of Brand Marketing and Creative, you will be the steward of ThredUp’s brand, leading a team that shapes how our brand comes to life across all consumer touchpoints.
  • This role is pivotal in driving our brand strategy, growing the top of the funnel through integrated marketing campaigns, and managing the creative team to ensure consistency and innovation in our creative efforts.
  • You will be a strategic advisor to the executive team, guiding the evolution and growth of our brand, category positioning, and market awareness
  • Brand Strategy & Management:
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive brand strategy that aligns with ThredUp’s mission and business objectives. Oversee brand building efforts and campaigns to maintain and enhance brand equity and perception in the market
  • Creative Leadership:
  • Lead and inspire a team of designers, writers, and creatives to deliver innovative and impactful creative work that resonates with our target audience. Ensure that our brand’s visual and verbal identity is consistent across all channels and touchpoints
  • Full-Funnel Marketing Campaigns:
  • Design and oversee the execution of integrated marketing campaigns that drive brand awareness, consideration, and conversion. Work closely with the performance marketing team to ensure alignment between brand-building efforts and lower-funnel activities
  • Consumer Touchpoints:
  • Ensure that our brand comes to life in a cohesive and compelling way across all consumer touchpoints, including digital, social, in-app, email, PR, and offline experiences. Focus on creating a seamless and engaging customer journey
  • Market Positioning & Branding:
  • Act as a strategic adviser to the executive team on market and branding positioning. Provide insights and recommendations on how to elevate ThredUp’s market awareness and consideration
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
  • Work closely with product, marketing, merchandising, and operations teams to ensure brand consistency and alignment with business goals. Partner with performance marketing to ensure that creative assets drive performance and conversion
  • Leadership & Team Development:
  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of brand marketers and creatives. Foster a collaborative and innovative team culture
  • Data-Driven Insights:
  • Utilize consumer insights, market research, and data analytics to inform brand strategy and creative direction. Monitor brand performance metrics and make adjustments to optimize effectiveness

Over 40% of Gen Z consumers claim to have bought used clothing as opposed to 20% of Gen X and Boomers. Yet, despite this change in fashion trends, consumers must often rely on brick-and-mortar thrift stores and unregulated second-hand eCommerce marketplaces in order to access to find pre-owned clothing.

ThredUp provides an online marketplace for the buying and selling of secondhand fashionwear, offering affordable prices on discount clothing whilst promising a regulated and consistent approach to quality and cleanliness standards. The company acquires its clothing through sellers sending packages of clothing, which the company then sifts through to decide what is sellable and what should be returned.

The company went public in 2021 and immediately acquired Remix, a European second-hand fashion outlet, as part of its international expansion plans. It has however struggled to achieve profitability thanks to global economic turmoil and a glut of new clothing in the fashion industry causing prices to drop sharply. It is focusing on reducing its operating costs and expanding its storage capacity, and is expected by analysts to weather the current conditions in good form.
