Company mission

To shine light on the passionate people and communities around the world that make electronic music tick.

Role

Who you are

  • We're not looking for a specific list of experience or skills, we believe that a capacity to learn and to pick up new skills is more important than knowing a particular technology
  • You will need to have experience in writing production-level software in at least one object-oriented language such as java or dotnet. As this is a full-stack role you’ll be working on backend, frontend and devops tasks. Experience in all of these areas would be beneficial, but is not required. You will also need to have experience working in an agile development team
  • You’ll be able to write code in a maintainable and testable way, and produce solutions to a high quality. You’ll also need to be comfortable taking ownership of projects, and weighing different approaches against each other. You’ll use your knowledge of design patterns and systems architecture to contribute to implementation discussions

What the job involves

  • Resident Advisor is an online media and ticket sales company producing content about electronic music. We are also one of the leading sellers of tickets to electronic music events
  • We are looking for a Full-stack Web Developer who is passionate about electronic music and wants to get involved building products for the electronic music community. Our development team is based mainly in our London and Madrid offices
  • RA welcomes applicants from all abilities, backgrounds, ethnicities, experiences, expressions, and orientations. We aim for the staffing at RA to be a reflection of the communities we cover, amplify and participate within. We actively promote equality, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace, this is reflected in our internal operations and the treatment of our staff
  • You’ll be working on a range of different products across RA. This could be improving the ticket buying experience for our customers, building new features and tools for promoters, improving our editorial coverage or doing platform and backend work
  • We operate as a mid-sized development team working with an agile methodology. We have a product management, design and data support team and you will often be working directly with other parts of the wider company
  • Our main languages are C# for backend services and React for the frontend. Our main site is built in Next.js and is backed by a GraphQL backend written in .NET Core. We also run a number of microservices to deliver specific functionalities. Kubernetes deployed in a cloud environment
  • We use continuous integration and deployment extensively and deploy as often as possible, using feature switches to deploy safely and gradually

Application process

  • If we like your application, we will do an initial call with you to make sure your expectations match up with ours for the role. If you’re successful we will send you a short coding task to complete in your own time. We will then invite you to a face-to-face or video interview to talk through your task and ask you some general non-technical questions. This will be the final round and, if you’re successful we will get back to you with an offer

Our take

Resident Advisor (RA) enables the discovery of new music and events through a unique combination of original content and listings. By providing a platform for artists, promoters and fans, RA connects the global dance music community and plays an indispensable role in supporting the electronic music industry worldwide. As well as editorial content, the site has become a go-to place for listing club nights and this recent ticketing feature of the site is now accounting for a sizeable chunk of both its income and traffic.

Its monthly readers encompass a wide range of backgrounds from the industry - music fans, club-goers, DJs, producers, venue owners, promoters and record labels.

Compared to competitors and general internet trends, where easily digestible content tends to rule, RA still very much believes in the power of long-form, and pairs this wherever possible with bespoke photography. Its growing readership is certainly a by-product of people enjoying this refreshing editorial approach.
