Role
Who you are
- 2–5 years of software engineering experience
- Experience or familiarity with one or more of the following technologies: Swift, Objective C, MVC, MVVM, SwiftUI, Combine, Async / Await, XCTest, Cocoapods, SPM, Alamofire, and/or GitHub Actions
- The ability to take technical direction to deliver well-scoped work
- Experience with object-oriented or functional programming languages including SOLID principles
- The ability to design working algorithms and analyze their performance
- Knowledge of application testing strategies, including unit, integration, end-to-end, and performance tests
- The ability to plan and design individual components and functions
- Familiarity with architecture patterns such as service-oriented, event-driven, or n-tier architecture
- Ability to walk through and manually debug existing code
- An understanding of RESTful API best practices
- Ability to communicate clearly with user experience and design, product management, and across Engineering teams
- Ability to extend and build upon existing application patterns for pages, components, and state
- You appreciate simple design
- You love to write clean, well-tested code (test-first or test-driven development approaches are a plus)
- You enjoy working with other engineers in a collaborative and iterative environment
- You communicate well with technical and non-technical stakeholders

- As a Software Engineer II–iOS at Favor, you will be responsible for all phases of development, testing, and deployment of our backend services, databases, and data warehouse
- You will work closely with our product and operations teams to understand customer needs, build simple solutions to complex problems, and deliver delightful experiences to all our users
- Assist in research and fact-finding to develop or modify applications
- Fix bugs and perform updates to the code base while working closely with senior engineers
- Participate in the planning and execution of development projects
- Partner with cross-functional technology teams to integrate solutions
Our take
More and more people are looking to get things delivered fast, and businesses are trying to find inventive ways to meet the demand and get people’s purchases to them as quickly as possible. Favor solves this problem, with an on-demand delivery service that depends on “runners” to get products to customers quickly.
Customers can browse on the Favor app and select items from their list or input items from other stores in the delivery zone, and Favor runners will collect the item and deliver it within an hour. For customers in a hurry, this is obviously appealing. While many on-demand delivery services struggle to scale, Favor itself has managed to scale its operations across Texas and expanded into Philadelphia in mid 2022.
This centralization has given the company an advantage over competitors who have since gone out of business, but it isn’t yet clear if other competitors will imitate Favor's approach to gain market share. The company faces strong challenges from deep-pocketed rivals like DoorDash and Uber Eats.
