Company mission

To enable all devices to navigate the world autonomously.

Role

Who you are

  • 3+ years of experience in developing C/C++ applications with a focus on algorithm design
  • Good fundamentals in mathematics, probability theory, estimation theory, and excellent problem-solving skills
  • Bachelor degree with 3+ years of industry experience or a masters degree working on software development and algorithm design
  • Willingness to learn, ability to communicate well, and demonstrate healthy drive and energy to understand and solve complex system-level problems

Desirable

  • Experience working on point cloud processing algorithms for detection, estimation, and filtering
  • Worked on fixed-point algorithm implementation on low-end processors
  • Knowledge of working principles for radars/lidars
  • Experience optimizing algorithms for different embedded platforms including ARM and SIMD processors

What the job involves

  • We are looking for a software engineer with a focus on algorithm development for point cloud processing in production as well as simulation platforms
  • Design and develop point cloud processing algorithms for detection, filtering, and tracking in C++ in production software and simulation platforms
  • Translate floating-point models to fixed-point for optimal implementation on ARM processors and FPGAs
  • Be involved in all stages of algorithm development including data collection, analysis, development, and test
  • Participate in the team's development processes, including requirements and design documentation, test-plan generation and execution, peer design and code reviews, process feedback, and improvements

Our take

The development of self-driving cars presents enormous opportunities for transportation, shipping, and ride-hailing industries, but getting these cars to run flawlessly is difficult. Cameras and radar sensors are used to detect obstacles for safe automated driving, but existing technology does not analyze enough data to meet these expectations.

Aeva builds sensory perception technology that maps the physical world around a vehicle on a granular basis to contribute towards the development of fully self-driving cars. The sensory system relies on what the company describes as being the world’s first 4D LiDAR-on-Chip. This technology comprises of sensors that detect objects and events up to 300m away, recognize velocity-per-pixel, and are immune to interference from neighboring frequencies.

Companies such as Tesla are already developing successful and safe fully self-driving software for their cars, but Aeva's approach to LiDar presents some serious competition to the existing camera-based technology. Despite further competition from Luminar and Velodyne, Aeva remains unique due to the condensed presentation of their technology into a tiny chip.
