Company mission

To unite data, no matter where it lives, and empower its users to analyze, take action, and make smart decisions.

Role

Who you are

  • We are looking for Engineers that are passionate about communicating with data and providing seamless experiences for our customers to join our growing team!
  • We’re looking for a senior software engineer with experience working remotely across multiple time zones to build SaaS applications at scale from the ground up, with a passion for providing a great end user and developer experience
  • You have at least 1 year of fully remote work experience
  • You have worked on a big SaaS platform and dealt with common distributed systems problems (e.g. scalability, multi-tenancy, data isolation, HA, …)
  • Care deeply about developer and user experience and the quality of the products that you work on
  • Have some experience with delivering projects from gathering requirements, and brainstorming ideas to shipping a product to the customer’s hands in a self-driven way
  • Have experience writing clean, robust, and performant software that is easily maintained by others
  • Have experience with mentoring junior engineers in a collaborative but asynchronous environment
  • Can take on complex challenges and break them down to achieve tight learning loops: to analyze, design, and build modular solutions, deliver MVPs, gather data and feedback, and then progress iteratively
  • You are willing to work across teams. Your work has to be aligned with the needs of other squads and external stakeholders. You make your plans transparent, bring stakeholders on board, and are open to feedback and suggestions

What the job involves

  • The Cloud Insights team works closely with backend database teams, builds and maintains a number of distributed microservices, and helps enable some of the data pipelines and visualizations which power Usage Insights, Insight Logs, Adaptive Metrics recommendation engine, Metrics and Logs Attributions, data for internal BI pipelines, and much more
  • We are dedicating more engineering time to metadata analysis which cuts across all of our products at Grafana Labs in order to provide curated and actionable insights to our customers, both internal and external
  • We typically work on multiple projects within the team, and, once ready, you would be expected to lead one of them
  • Writing efficient, readable, and easy to maintain code
  • Designing new microservices or systems
  • Collaborating with teammates and other departments to reach consensus on proposed solutions
  • Coordinating with product and UX when needed
  • Responding to customer requests and feedback
  • When ready, participating in our follow-the-sun OnCall rotation
  • Participating in team decisions, such as roadmap planning and prioritization

Our take

Observability plays a crucial role in software development, where dashboards are pivotal for monitoring the health of IT infrastructure across an organization. However, for developers, the frustration of spending unnecessary time navigating between different dashboards to find the latest information detracts from valuable programming time.

Grafana collaborates closely with its clients to create customizable observability platforms, striving to enhance efficiency in observability. Its offerings include cloud-based data structures, dashboards, API plugins, and collaboration tools. Currently, FGrafana boasts over 21M active instances and approximately 10M users globally, with a customer base exceeding 2,000, including prominent names like Bloomberg, PJ Morgan Chase, eBay, PayPal, and Sony.

While Grafana provides free plans with a simplified tool package, the Grafana Enterprise Stack offers customized observability solutions on a monthly subscription basis. The company's ongoing strategy revolves around continually improving Grafana to meet users' demands, enhancing functionality with each iteration, and fostering community engagement by enabling users to share their Grafana dashboards with the broader open-source community.
