Company mission

To bridge the gap between education and the workplace by making internships accessible to all.

Role

Who you are

  • Success as an Account Executive within an early stage start-up, ideally in the EdTech sector
  • Experience with, and the stamina for, long-cycle sales. You particularly understand how to drive against ambitious timelines and targets while also balancing the needs and realities of individual target client constraints
  • Willingness to work in a fast-paced, evolving early-stage environment. You are comfortable with the ambiguity that comes with a startup environment, and you are excited by the idea of working with a global team across 25+ countries
  • Building relationships should come easy to you – and you’ll love connecting with people
  • Willingness to travel - domestically and possibly internationally as needed. Given the current environment, you also bring an instinct of knowing when meetings should take place virtually versus in person
  • Legally able to work in the US without sponsorship

Desirable

  • You have a successful track record of selling to US universities and have a solid understanding of the US HE market
  • You have worked at a Series A or Series B scaleup during a period of rapid growth

What the job involves

  • Get onboarded and brought up to speed with all things VI - our company structure, product, mission, values and tech stack
  • Review our current programs, systems, and data so you can gain insight into where we currently are - and crucially where we need to be
  • Meet with colleagues across the company and start building relationships that will help you better understand the company and your objectives
  • Begin building your own sales pipeline and working with existing leads. As you take ownership of the existing pipeline, you’ll identify the need to get going and get selling
  • Within 3 months, you will:
  • Have full knowledge of the VI product and how to sell to university partners
  • Have an increasingly healthy pipeline of opportunities - some of which will be close to closing
  • Be comfortable conducting sales calls to prospective buyers and be motivated by executing tactics that move opportunities down the pipeline
  • Likely have attended an industry event to widen your network and knowledge of the sector
  • Within 6 months, you will:
  • Have closed at least one deal and have several other opportunities close to closing
  • Have full understanding of VI’s position in the US HE market
  • Be comfortable sharing best practice, updates and sector-related content across multiple channels

Our take

For many students, location can be a massive barrier to pursuing internships. Virtual Internships solves this problem by matching young people with remote internships at global companies.

Virtual Internships is taking advantage of the international shift towards remote and distributed work to make internships more accessible. Its solution is powered by AI, allocating internships more quickly and accurately than traditional job searches. What's more, it offers training to interns before they start, thereby providing an assurance of quality (and therefore incentive) for companies.

Since its launch, Virtual Internships has grown its revenue at an impressive pace. Its largest source of income is universities and higher education institutions who have added the service to their curriculums. The company faces considerable competition from the likes of Forage, Multiverse and Riipen, but it has successfully set itself apart by offering guaranteed internships and working closely with universities.
