Company mission

To defend against America's national security challenges to create a safer future for the nation.

Role

Who you are

  • Strong engineering background from industry or school, ideally in areas/fields such as Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics
  • High ownership and autonomy across the end-to-end lifecycle of software development
  • A deep, demonstrated understanding of how computers and networks work, from a single desktop to a multi-cluster cloud node
  • At least 7+ years working with a variety of programming languages such as Rust, Go, C++, Java, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, etc
  • Experience building scalable backend software systems with various data storage and processing requirements
  • Experience with industry standard cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), CI/CD tools, and software infrastructure fundamentals (networking, security, distributed systems)
  • Experience leading small teams of cross functional engineers to design, build, and deploy software systems
  • Ability to quickly understand and navigate complex systems and established code bases
  • Eligible to obtain and hold a DoD security clearance

Desirable

  • Experience implementing robot or autonomous vehicle testing frameworks in a software-in-the-loop or hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) environment
  • Experience with modern build and deployment tooling (e.g. NixOS, Terraform)
  • Experience designing complex software systems, and iterating upon designs via a technical design review process
  • Familiarity with industry standard monitoring, logging, and data management tools and best practices
  • A bias towards rapid delivery and iteration

What the job involves

  • Anduril’s Land Systems team develops software for land-based crewed and robotic ground systems, leveraging software infrastructure built by other teams at Anduril. The team is responsible for taking crewed vehicles and uncrewed ground vehicle (UGV) robots from paper sketches to operational systems
  • We are looking for software engineers excited about fielding the next generation of software-defined ground combat vehicles, leveraging technologies and tools including edge computing, secure communications, fleet management, perception and planning (computer vision, motion planning, SLAM, controls, state estimation), and more
  • Set the strategic vision for Anduril’s simulation and test environments for both crewed and uncrewed ground vehicles
  • Lead and work with a diverse team of systems engineers, software engineers, and mechanical / electrical engineers to define and build a software-first integration environment for uncrewed ground combat systems
  • Build and integrate model-, software-, and hardware-in-the-loop components by leveraging first and third party technologies related to simulation, data management, compute infrastructure, networking, and more
  • Manage the various needs of both internal and external stakeholders to build and integrate tooling suites which evaluate autonomy and vehicle performance across a diverse range of conditions and reference missions
  • Collaborate with internal team members and external partners in the autonomy domain to build technologies and processes which enable users to safely and rapidly develop and deploy autonomous systems at scale

Our take

Anduril makes hardware and software for defense agencies including the Department of Defense and the Department of Homeland Security. Its hardware products include specialist drones with a long flight time and surveillance towers.

This hardware is tied together by proprietary software, the Lattice platform, which uses sensor fusion, machine learning, and mesh networking to integrate real-time data from Anduril hardware and third-party systems into a single, autonomous operating picture. While the hardware observes and detects, the software can make decisions as to the threat level of any anomalies, and so allow for observation and protection of an area or building with minimal manpower.

Anduril closed a Series E funding round in 2022 led by Valor Equity Partners. This funding was used for research and development of its autonomous defense products, such as the Roadrunner, a modular twin-jet powered autonomous vehicle that can take off and land vertically. Variants of the Roadrunner include defensive warhead armed interceptors which are the first drone weapons that can be retrieved after deployment. The company has also expanded to Australia where it is working in tandem with the Australian Defence Force to improve its military technology and infrastructure and is recruiting talent worldwide to support its rapidly growing portfolio of defense projects.
