Role

Who you are

  • Passion for Abridge’s mission and the energy to support a fast-moving commercial team
  • 6 + years experience negotiating commercial contracts, ideally with large institutions as counterparties. Healthcare systems are a plus, though experience negotiating with government, universities, and large corporations also qualifies
  • Comfort with juggling a high volume of contracts, tight timelines, and competing priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently; interest in joining a small team that prioritizes autonomy and trust
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally, particularly with technical teams, designers, and sales teams
  • Creativity in solving and navigating novel legal matters; experience in crafting new processes and language to meet the needs of a rapidly moving enterprise in a novel industry

Desirable

  • Specialities in intellectual property, data privacy / HIPAA, and technology law are welcome but not necessary
  • Some familiarity and understanding of recent trends in artificial intelligence, with a specific focus on language models
  • Prior in-house experience is a plus, though not a requirement for this role

What the job involves

  • Abridge is in the process of rolling out its ambient listening solution to healthcare systems throughout the country. As Assistant General Counsel, you will be at the front lines of making Abridge a success, working alongside our Sales and Partner Success teams negotiate and close deals with customers big and small
  • Be a lead negotiator representing Abridge in transactions with a wide range of customers and partners
  • Coordinate and manage external counsel to resolve specialist issues and ensure fast delivery of contract reviews
  • Work with our General Counsel and Chief Commercial Officer in iterating on and improving our core commercial documents and terms

Our take

Summarizing key elements of healthcare conversations is crucial for both physicians and patients. Medical scribes, though effective, are costly, and the healthcare system faces funding and staffing crises. This has created a demand for more efficient notetaking solutions.

This is where Abridge comes in, it has developed a HIPAA-compliant AI platform that transcribes, structures, summarizes, and provides insights from audio or transcripts of medical conversations. It claims to work across all specialities and offers patient-friendly summaries in easy-to-understand language.

Abridge aims to alleviate pressure on the healthcare system from the patient's perspective, a unique approach among healthtech startups. While companies like Inovia, DOUB, and DeepScribe focus on assisting physicians with medical transcription AI, they lack Abridge's patient-centric features, which are valuable in enhancing the patient experience.
