Company mission

To power a deeper understanding in healthcare.

Role

Who you are

  • You have 5+ years of experience designing and shipping digital products (web & mobile)
  • You (likely) hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in design (or related field)
  • Whether you’ve worked in healthcare or engaged with it as a patient or caregiver, you are fired up by the chance to change it for the better
  • You know your way around Figma in your sleep
  • You have a perfectionist’s eye for crisp interactions and visuals, but a pragmatist’s drive to ship products on time
  • You’re an empathetic communicator with a broad toolkit and know how to get your points across in-person or remotely
  • You are comfortable embracing ambiguity and energized by exploring divergent approaches to problems

Desirable

  • You have past experience designing for a wide variety of media types, particularly audio
  • Consumer mobile apps are your bread and butter; you have a strong sense of what will be ‘sticky’ and what will just be a sticking point
  • You’re fascinated by the future of social networks, user communities, and UGC

What the job involves

  • Abridge is hiring a designer with hands-on experience building inspiring digital products and services
  • At Abridge, you will work within a crack team of AI researchers, software engineers, clinicians, and creatives to build AI-powered products that address the needs of patients and doctors
  • You will immerse yourself in clinical workflows to understand stakeholder needs and shape your insights into compelling mobile and web experiences that liberate clinicians from the tedious clerical work that plagues modern healthcare
  • In your first assignment, you will likely play a key role in an initiative to extend Abridge’s product deeper into the after-visit workflow, addressing revenue cycle management and keeping this part of the product in harmony with Abridge’s documentation generation
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary product delivery team to define and scope new features for Abridge’s products
  • Create a full range of design artifacts to communicate the product vision and user interactions (e.g. user flows, wireframes, production-ready UI)
  • Contribute to Abridge’s expanding design system and component libraries
  • Engage in product discovery, conducting interviews and shadowing sessions with doctors and other clinicians to uncover both how they use Abridge today, dream of using it in the future, and exciting possibilities that they haven’t yet dreamt of
  • Combine insights from user feedback and analytics to identify trends and quickly iterate on designs
  • Work in lock-step with engineering, machine learning researchers, and QA to understand technical constraints, address edge cases, and ensure that shipped features match your designs

Our take

Summarizing key elements of healthcare conversations is crucial for both physicians and patients. Medical scribes, though effective, are costly, and the healthcare system faces funding and staffing crises. This has created a demand for more efficient notetaking solutions.

This is where Abridge comes in, it has developed a HIPAA-compliant AI platform that transcribes, structures, summarizes, and provides insights from audio or transcripts of medical conversations. It claims to work across all specialities and offers patient-friendly summaries in easy-to-understand language.

Abridge aims to alleviate pressure on the healthcare system from the patient's perspective, a unique approach among healthtech startups. While companies like Inovia, DOUB, and DeepScribe focus on assisting physicians with medical transcription AI, they lack Abridge's patient-centric features, which are valuable in enhancing the patient experience.
