Role

Who you are

  • 6+ years of software engineering experience
  • Experience working on cross-functional teams
  • Experience working on time-sensitive projects, balancing multiple stakeholder’s needs
  • Experience driving all phases of the development lifecycle: planning, specing, execution, and measuring success

  • Collaborative working style and bias to helping others in the team grow
  • High personal awareness and growth mindset (for Software Engineer)
  • Strong sense of ownership (for Senior Software Engineer)

What the job involves

  • Scheduling is a key functionality that touches multiple surfaces and applications at Rula
  • It is the core experience that facilitates appointments between patients and providers, which is the bread and butter of Rula’s business
  • Key capabilities include allowing providers to set their availability upfront, managing appointments, and enabling patients to view availability and book appointments
  • This team will own the Electronic Health Record System (EHR) interactions in this area, make Rula the source of truth for this data, and increase resilience by not being dependent on the uptime SLAs of the EHR
  • This is a backend leaning role
  • Healthcare scheduling is a complex topic with high stakes for errors
  • To build scalable and reliable systems in this space, we set a very high bar for engineering quality and take pride in developing products by consistently following engineering fundamentals in automation, security, and observability every day
  • We are looking to build the Scheduling team with five engineers
  • If you enjoy solving complex problems, always strive to raise the quality bar while developing software, and want to work in a collaborative environment that prioritizes the team's success over succeeding individually, the Scheduling team is the right team for you

Our take

More than half of adults in the US will be diagnosed with a mental illness during their lifetime, and yet inaccessibility of treatment remains a huge problem. That’s what Rula aims to solve, with its platform that matches users to therapists that are covered by their insurance.

The company, formerly known as Path, is partnered with a number of major health insurers, including UnitedHealthcare and Anthem, making it an accessible service for millions of Americans. It allows users to browse therapists almost instantly, with just a short questionnaire to fill in before their matches are shown.

Though the market for tech services offering mental health provision is an overstuffed one, containing giants like BetterHelp as well as newer competitors, Rula's partnerships with insurers do mark it out against the crowd. The business has been steadily growing, and significantly bolstered its executive team in 2023. Its recent rebrand was designed to emphasize its vision to improve not only access to mental health care, but also clinical outcomes.
