Company mission

Vira Health is on a mission to make personalised menopause care the norm, delivering immediate relief as well as reducing the long-term impact of osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and dementia.

Role

Who you are

  • Experience architecting complex apps (ideally B2C)
  • Experience working as an app developer within a high volume startup or established business
  • Experience developing apps using a combination of Objective-C, Swift, UIKit and HTML5 (with apps in the app store to demonstrate this)
  • Experience with developing for optimal off-line behaviour/caching, dealing with poor network connectivity gracefully, etc
  • Experience building complex, innovative UIs in apps
  • A solid understanding of HTTP/S networking (allowing you to gain app store approval by using the required networking standards)
  • Be passionate about ensuring the quality of our iOS app
  • Experience with integrating analytics logic into your apps, to allow for measurement of success/usage
  • Excellent attention to detail both in interpreting the UI design and the quality of your code
  • A self starter and motivated to find and play your role in the team to deliver on the product’s objectives

What the job involves

  • Develop our core ‘Stella’ iOS consumer facing application using Swift, UIkit and HTML5
  • Take a leading role in the evolution of our iOS app by working closely with the product team designing the app to use your knowledge of the technical possibilities to influence how the product evolves
  • Take responsibility for app store submission of updates, and bug fixes
  • Understand and leverage appropriate code testing strategies (unit, integration, component, end-to-end, etc…) to ensure that everything you release is of the highest quality

Application process

  • We’re looking for an iOS App Developer to work with our teams based in London (mostly remote working for the time being) and to lead our transition from agency design to in-house.  You’ll work closely with a smart, collaborative team of the company’s two founders, product management, designers, and other engineers to use your development skills to evolve our flagship iOS app - ‘Stella’
  • As this is an app development role in a startup, it’s important that you are just as happy architecting the structure of apps as you are getting stuck in and writing code and that you are happy in an environment that values the team over job titles
  • You will primarily need deep knowledge in building applications for iOS, but also ideally possess good experience with other web languages (JavaScript, PHP, etc), and be able to demonstrate at least one iOS app that you have developed that is available in the app store

Our take

Female health has been historically under-resourced and overlooked and the results are staggering. Women are 2 times more likely to die of a heart attack. They have a 1.7 times higher risk of having an adverse drug reaction. Across brain cancer, chronic pain, endometriosis and dementia there is evidence of misdiagnosis of women.

This is all the product of a massive data gap – there is so much we do not know about women’s health. Vira and its team are one of the few tackling this gap. The company's initial focus is on menopause and its associated treatments through a mobile app called Stella. Vira makes a compelling justification for facing menopause head-on before branching out into other fem-health spaces.

The founding team has highly relevant experience and is well-placed to tackle female health. Alongside its product, Vira has managed to grow a community and provides tips, Q&A's, and virtual events to create a holistic approach to addressing female health which its users will not find anywhere else. Although its app has only recently found footing in the UK & Ireland, Vira is now available in the US market. Now flush with 2022 funding, the company can properly establish its product in these regions.
