Company mission

To make the transformative power of 3D printing available to all industries at scale and unlock the future of innovation.

Role

Who you are

  • This high-impact role with a rapidly scaling technology company is perfect for someone who wants to build things from the ground up using the latest developments in big data and cloud computing
  • 3D printing experience is not required to be successful here - rather we look for smart, motivated, collaborative engineers who love solving hard problems and creating amazing technology!
  • 5+ years of experience in IT Linux systems engineering
  • Experience with containerization technologies like Docker and container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes (cloud and on-prem)
  • Demonstrated experience with automation tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, including provisioning, monitoring, and scaling resources in a cloud-native environment
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, Github Actions or CircleCI
  • Experience with monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or ELK stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana)
  • Linux scripting/automation experience using shell, bash, Python, or similar language

Desirable

  • Experience working for an engineering company and building an IT infrastructure for software or hardware engineers
  • Experience with VMware deployment clusters and high availability
  • Knowledge of best practices around data security and implementation of those practices (edge protection, ISO/IEC 27001, ITAR, PII, etc.)
  • Experience scoping, implementing, and partitioning physical and virtual servers in an enterprise environment for analysis clusters and computing, data storage, programming development environments, and other applications
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision; must be a self-motivated self-starter that can initiate ideas
  • Ability to participate in after-hours, on-call support for computer, network, and phone issues
  • Experience setting up and supporting a remote work environment for offsite employees
  • Degree in computer science, engineering, IT, information systems, math, physics, or similar technical discipline

What the job involves

  • We are looking for a highly passionate and self-motivated individual who can excel in a dynamic work environment and will play a critical role in building our IT infrastructure
  • In this role, you will architect and deploy a wide variety of IT solutions to enable our advanced heterogeneous computing environment to process petabytes of data and integrate with a hybrid cloud platform
  • Build highly resilient, high-performance, scalable, and flexible IT systems
  • Design, implement, manage, document & troubleshoot:
  • Compute and storage environments to support ML, big data, and Kubernetes workloads
  • Data management and archiving systems
  • Perform DevOps activities such as:
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Develop and maintain infrastructure as code (IaC) using tools like Terraform or CloudFormation to automate the provisioning and configuration of infrastructure resources
  • Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD): Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines to automate software delivery processes, including code compilation, testing, and deployment
  • Monitoring and Alerting: Implement and maintain monitoring and alerting systems to ensure the health, performance, and availability of systems and applications. This includes setting up dashboards, configuring alerts, and responding to incidents
  • Security and Compliance: Collaborate with security teams to implement and maintain security best practices, including vulnerability scanning, access control, and compliance with industry standards and regulations
  • Maintain and administer hybrid cloud infrastructure
  • Networking and firewall hardware and software management
  • Troubleshoot various technical issues across operating systems (Linux, Windows, etc.), multiple applications, and hardware (Ruckus, Cisco, FortiGate, Supermicro, etc)
  • Operate under tight timelines and limited resources (be scrappy)
  • Roll up your sleeves, have a “no job too big or small” mentality, be flexible, etc

Our take

There is a huge amount of demand for precision metal fabrication in future-focused industries such as rocketry and vehicle manufacturing, but legacy production techniques are too slow and inflexible to meet the requirements of rapidly changing designs in the most innovative firms. Enter Freeform Future, a company which builds metal 3D printing factories to allow manufacturers to swiftly and efficiently go from idea to mass production.

Founded by engineers with extensive experience at SpaceX, Freeform seeks to replace existing metal fabrication works - typified with heavy reliance on manual labour and legacy processes - with 3D printers and automated software technologies. Rather than needing to train a large workforce on production techniques, Freeform will be able to print almost any metal item at production scale on demand, with a turnaround time of days rather than weeks.

Though having only emerged from stealth in 2023, Freeform has some large-scale customers including autonomous trucking firm Embark and rocket part manufacturer, Ursa Major. After raising significant funding in early 2023, the company is moving from prototype to production, scaling up its operations to meet the growing demand for rapidly produced, high-quality metal components.
