Who you are
- Has 3+ years working with modern web technologies and frameworks like Typescript and React
- Has experience building flexible, composable components and libraries
- Has a get it done attitude - if your project needs an API endpoint, you’re willing to create it (even if you need help from a fellow engineer!)
- Has an extremely high bar for quality software - you can move fast and ship scalable code with the help of your team
- Enjoys being close to the customer and owning projects to completion
- Desire to own engineering end-to-end. Our engineers engineer systems from scratch, deploy into production environments, and make sure the code is maintained
- Love for talking to users, understanding their needs, and making sure your product meets their requirements
- Appetite for working in fast-paced environments where you get to work directly with customers and make decisions that have a huge impact on the business
- Desire to create and maintain an engineering culture of craftsmanship
- Familiarity with the modern data stack (e.g. Fivetran, Snowflake, dbt, Looker)
What the job involves
- Work with our product team and customers to design, build, and ship core features to the Metaplane platform using Typescript and React
- Build reusable components that level up every part of our web application
- Improve our frontend developer experience using tools like Gitbook, CircleCI, Datadog, and Sentry
- Maintain and improve monitoring and observability tools like Sentry and Datadog
- Debug and fix production issues affecting our customers
- Review code changes and design specs from teammates
Our take
The amount of data the companies process - and the number of tools available to handle it - has increased exponentially in recent years. While platforms exist to monitor the performance of data software, not much exists to monitor the data itself, leading to data used in business critical applications sometimes becoming unreliable and requiring time-consuming and expensive QA.
Metaplane positions itself as a "DataDog for data", targeting quality issues by using anomaly detection models to find issues in a customer's data stack in real time, including the data warehouses which the data comes from. This allows data teams to swiftly locate and triage issues, before erroneous data hits a dashboard. While there is a growing roster of competitors entering the observability space, including Cribl, Monte Carlo and Manta, Metaplane seeks to stand out with its focus on product data, where its proprietary algorithms outshine Meta's Prophet library used by most competitors.
Metaplane has amassed a solid customer base of over 140 companies including Imperfect Foods, Appcues and Reforge. It closed a Series A funding round in 2024 off of its successes so far. This investment is going towards the development of its AI-powered observability platform. In the longer term, it will move into other business areas beyond product. As companies continue to grapple with the reliability of their data, Metaplane is well-placed to build a significant business in this sector.
