Company mission

Cydea's mission is to build a safer, more secure world where more things go right.

Role

Who you are

  • We’re looking for someone to join our team as a senior engineer. They’ll have an inquisitive mind and want to improve the world around them. Day-to-day that means helping to architect and build new tools that help our consultants and clients to assess and communicate their organisations cyber security posture
  • Maybe they are a seasoned engineer looking to apply their hard-won knowledge to a new domain and own the technical side of our products from all angles. Or perhaps they are an engineer looking to take on broader responsibilities in a small business where you can make a big difference
  • They’ll know how to build infrastructure and integrate services securely and write efficient and reliable code. The ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both written and verbal form is needed, as is having the confidence to question and challenge the status quo
  • You'll be coming in to a small team and need to be comfortable working with non-technical members of the team. We need you to lead us on a journey as we grow our in-house capability
  • We don’t expect them to have loads of certifications; though they will have experience building and scaling apps in a variety of teams and using a range of technologies

What the job involves

  • You’ll be working to change the way that consulting projects are delivered and our clients manage their cyber risk. Replacing one-off reports, spreadsheets and presentations that get dusty on the shelf with technology that supports business processes and decision making
  • We succeed when we help shift our clients into a more confident, informed and positive approach to cyber security. We’re giving them the tools to quantify their cyber risk, to make risk management, transfer and investment decisions and protect what matters most to them
  • You should be comfortable problem solving by breaking down challenges into small, more manageable parts, and documenting any assumptions or estimates that you make along the way. You’ll be helping us to translate user needs into features that we can build into a collection of apps that make it easier for our clients to understand, communicate and manage their cyber risk
  • You’ll be in a great position to help influence the direction of our products, backlog and tech stack, then work autonomously and flexibly through a backlog of features and tasks: from the architecture of our cloud infrastructure and services to writing efficient and reliable code
  • We don't expect you to do it all yourself, we seek other expertise (like user experience, design, development, testing and so on) from software and design agencies, so you'll need to work with and manage them to be successful. Longer term we see this as being the first of many in our technology team. You’ll be here first and helping to establish practises and culture. Ultimately you’re looking to become Head of Engineering or even Chief Technology Officer
  • Outside of the engineering work you’ll also be contributing to our internal tools and processes and open-source projects. You’ll be expected to raise awareness of our services, to help propose new services to clients and (reverse) mentor colleagues. From time to time there may also be the opportunity to get involved in some of our cyber consulting projects, if that excites you
  • Through our Cydea x Good Causes charitable programme you’ll spend five days every year on pro-bono engagements helping not-for-profit organisations to protect their incredible work
  • We want you to succeed day-to-day and your career more generally. You will be supervised, but not micromanaged. We will invest in your development through formal courses, online learning, career mentorship, on-the-job training and regular feedback. We budget for everyone to go on a training course every year and expect you to share what you're learning. Every week we talk about what we've achieved, learned and reflect on a problem we'll need to solve soon

Application process

  • Application
  • First interview (30m video call)
  • Second interview (2h face-to-face)
  • Offer

The cybersecurity threat has been ratcheting up over recent years, and with a number of substantial and high-profile breaches on the books, CISOs across the board are amping up their cybersecurity postures. Cydea is a relatively young cybersecurity consultancy bringing a new energy to help them do so.

The boutique consultancy typically works with clients over longer periods on a broad spread of projects including due diligence, risk analysis, and scorecards. It’s a modest operation, but distinguishes itself with a focus on what it terms “positive security”: working from what needs protecting, as opposed to what might attack. It’s certainly a refreshing approach, and with plenty of boutique cybersecurity consultancies cropping up over recent years it’s important to stand out.

Moreover, if boutique operations lack the resources of competitors like Deloitte and Accenture, they nevertheless benefit from an agility which allows them to pivot and adapt to the rapidly shifting market of threats. As such, Cydea offers a strong proposition, and with the cybersecurity consulting market expected to nearly double in size globally over the coming years, it could be in a good place to capitalise on this growth,
